unlike Amir Khan, Lara realises he hasn't done enough yet to earn a shot at Mayweather. this is from his twitter page Erislandy Lara ‏@Laraboxing 21 Sep Alot of fans asking me to fight @FloydMayweather it would be a honor to fight TBE but i must first beat a few guys Canelo, Molina or Trout!
props to Lara for thinking like that. :good Canelo, Molina and Trout are very tough fights for Lara. Angulo, whos a slow flatfooted raw-plodder managed to drop him and gave some hard fists to Lara.
true khan barely deserves a shot at alexander been awful last few fights Molina and diaz guys barely in top 100
Unfortunately Lara's style does not allow him to win descisions half the time. The whole potshot and grab is pretty pointless unless your getting the KO. He is lucky refs don't take points away from him. But then again most boxing refs suck. I mean with the Mortisyan fight his potshot and grab was not working so what does he do? Rushes in with the headbutt to end the fight on a cut... And yes he has skills, but his style sucks.
I like that attitude, but he also needs to become a name and become more fan friendly or the bigger public audience won't know his name. AND the name is the most important thing for a profitable Mayweather fight.
lets see, he has 19 fights and just won some paper interim title khan has been in 9 or 10 world tile fights and a unified champion. and in case you are not aware, who reallu earns a shot a mayweather these days? wtf did guerrero really do? beat berto? Ortiz? beat berto? JMM? (never a fight at 140 or 147) Judah? coming off a loss? Baldomir? 9 losses and coming off a win vs Judah ? SSM? dismantled Margarito but 38 years old and didnt win a fight for the next 3 years so no one earns a shot....Khan is just as worthy as any of the above mentioned...so get over it
Props to Lara. he recognizes what the conventional format should be in order to become recognized as a P4P guy. Not saying he'll become one, but he at least acknowledges there's a certain right of passage he has to take in order to fight the elite in boxing. He has the boxing skill, I think it's just more of a concentration and commitment issue on his part. All of these wonderful Cuban boxers have Zero fanbase after they defect, it's a matter of them performing well in the States by taking on top tier challengers (i.e. Rigo taking Donaire on in just his 12th bout,) continue to fight on a regular basis, and looking dominant in the process. I really enjoy watching FLoyd fight but I'd be a bit critical if he ends up taking on Khan just because he's so undeserving of a shot at the P4P king. To fight FLoyd, you need to bring in a good resume, be on a winning streak and have an established boxing fanbase. Khan only has the fanbase going for him at this point, nothing else. His last fight against Julio Diaz made me realize that Khan's better days are probably behind him now.
Respectable attitude from Lara, I hope we get to see him mix it up with more top fighters in the weight class soon. I was bummed when the Trout fight fell through.
It's interesting how you list all those opponents but obviously take all their names and resumes out of context. this is how you form a very biased argument that doesn't hold much merit to it. Not to contradict every part of your post, but here we go: Judah was the recognized undisputed WW champ when him and FLoyd signed up to fight. I'm sure you already knew that and even though he had lost to Baldomir AFTER he signed to fight FLoyd, Mayweather decided to follow through his contractual obligation to fight him. Baldomir was the undisputed lineal WW champ. DOn't bring up the losses, he was on a winning streak for several years at the point he took on FLoyd and had about a 20 lb weight advanatge on him during fight night. Several of Carlos' losses came in fighting his opposition in their home countries, with some controversial disputes. But that was years before he ended up beating a prime Judah. Guerrero hadn't lost in close to 8 years, granted he was out of boxing for a year and a half to tend to his wife's cancer treatment, but he was on a very long winning streak and his only loss was one that he eventually avenged. Dinamita was thought to have won at least one of the Pacman bouts by the time he was calling out Floyd and he also wiped out all the top tier challenger in the LW division including beating an undefeated LW champ in baby bull DIaz (twice.) He called out FLoyd MANY times, and he was considered by most to be at worst a top 2-3 P4P champion in the world. It wasn't like FLoyd was calling him out, JMM was doing all the talking for quite some time. Him being a GB fighter at the time made that fight easy to make, and his resume made him a worthy adversary. Mosley was a big WW and came off one of his best performances ever at 147 lbs by dismantling a previously "invincible" Tony Margs. If FLoyd didn't end up fighting SSM, everyone would've thought he was ducking him. because he made him look like a club fighter for most of their bout, now SSm is too old. It's just so funny how people want to criticize this guy, damned if he does and damn if he doesn't. You obviously don't like FLoyd and that's fine, but there's no reason to try and skew his resume. Put things into proper context rather than spewing a list out and adding baseless commentary to it.
i love lara for this.. rather just listenin to the hype around himself he says "NAH **** THAT, ILL EARN MY SHOT LIKE A TRUE CHAMPION"...
