Maidana wouldn't have had to go back to Argentina. That's bull****.

It was common knowledge that HBO wanted Alexander-Maidana but the Morales fight came up and Maidana took that.

Props big time to Maidana for gettin a win over a "determined" Erik Morales. Morales was landing some evil **** goin into and thru the mid-rounds, but Maidana dug deep and especially in those Championship rounds he pulled it together and got an impressive W. Good thing he trained like a beast to have that energy in the 11th and 12th...

 

Where's your evidence to suggest Golden Boy offered him this ultimatum of either:

A: Fight Morales.

OR

B: Go back to Argentina?

Because not having a fight lined up doesn't mean he's been left by the wayside. His stock would've been very high after the Khan fight, GBP wouldn't have just left him out to dry, let's get serious here.

The tone you use is a bit arrogant, dont you think? Me, personally, I think that Maidana would not have had to ''fight his heart out'' had he not been so lackadaisical coming into the fight. He had to make such a huge effort in the ring because he didn't do enough out of it. But that's my opinion, which I'm entitled to, and you're entitled to yours, so try not to act so stubborn.

This fight was a gift to Maidana, he just made every mistake in the book, and still came off the victor.

• HBO owes former junior welterweight titlist Devon Alexander a fight based on the contract he had with the network for his Jan. 29 unification fight against Timothy Bradley Jr., which Alexander (21-1, 13 KOs) lost on a 10th-round technical decision. There was some discussion from Alexander's team and HBO that he might fight top contender Marcos Maidana of Argentina in June or July in what amounted to a consolation match of an unofficial four-man tournament that also involved Amir Khan, who outpointed Maidana in a December slugfest. However, Maidana signed this week to face Erik Morales on April 9. So now Alexander is focused on trying to make a fight with Lucas Matthysse (28-1, 26 KOs)

Maidana had options but he went for Morales. Yes Morales picked Maidana because he thought the style favoured him but everyone wrote Erik off. None of the journos gave him a chance. Maidana was a massive favourite, top 3 140lber whereas Erik's prime was at 130 or below.

I hope we see Maidana in more entertaining fights but last night he was a massive favourite and struggled badly. Unfortunately from the moment the fight was made Maidana was in a lose-lose situation - win impressively and Morales was shot, struggle like he did or lose then he was shown up by an old fighter outside his prime weight class.

 

Also the head. Maidana shoved it right into Morales´s face and eye.
The fight was a draw. Morales took Maidanas best punches and with a closed eye he managed to school Maidana and make him look silly and amateurish.
