Give me a reason to be excited about boxing right now

Nothing really, champs aren’t even fighting contenders now aday, most fight once a year, the sport is now a joke.

Look at Wlads activity and resume compare it to Fury’s

 

Another is how did Teremoana/Savage headline a card? Or why was Ramirez who fought Money McIntyre so poor? We are being fed turd soup, and they don't even bother with salt.

I say we all should stop forking out for exorbitant PPV fees, they are taking the urine big time.

 

I agree. Savage is an all you can eat buffet specialist. A fat tub of lard of mass proportions.

 

Was surprised to see Tony Harrison training him. He got a beating last time he was in Australia.

just waiting for safe big dollar fights to come along while ducking any opponents likely to give problems.

 

This has definitely felt like a weak year for boxing. Still have had some great fighters, performances and knockouts but in general it has been fairly disappointing.

2020-2025 was pretty strong with Turki bank rolling some big fights and titles were unifying and big names who had been posturing finally began fighting.

2026 feels like a hangover, I just wonder if this is a down year or the beginning of a downward trend

Boxing keeps trying to reinvent itself but a predictable thing keeps happening. New company comes in and throws around a ton of money to get the biggest names. Then they promise no PPV. At first big fights happen but then the company loses steam, big fights stall, guys wait around for more money and take easier fights in the mean time. PPV comes back the fans get pissed and then another company comes in and promises the same thing.

It feels like boxing keeps waiting for a savior who can just throw money at the problem. The sport needs some actual long term fixes because it has really just been boom bust. Saudi backed LIV Golf is on the way out, their involvement in boxing may wind up being shorter than expected.

It could be that I am older and my priorities have changed but I rarely watch boxing live anymore, never buy PPV's, and get more frustrated by the outside the ring bull**** than excited about it.

 

A week ago I was going to log on here and state that I did enjoy the Zepeda fight and card in general. Then this last weekend happened..

I am intrigued by the outcome of Itauma-Hrgovic. But like others on here, while I pay the annual DAZN subscription, I don't pay for PPV or the Ultimate tier. I haven't bought a PPV since Canelo-GGG 3. So I'll have to catch the highlights or read the ESB RBR (which is admittedly an excellent way to follow the action when you can't watch: it's like the modern equivalent of listening to a fight broadcast on the radio + with comments included).

It's not ideal as a fan to miss the biggest fights. I miss when the bars near me used to show the big fights. Used to pay a cover charge on fight night and watch the big events. I saw May-DLH, Pac-Cotto, Pac-Bradley I (folks were up in arms at that decision) in a bar full of folks. I did go see Romero-Ryan Garcia more recently at a bar, which ended up being a flat fight that left the people there disappointed.

I will say as a long-time fan that the early to mid 2000s were a bummer time, as I was always reading about fights in UK, Germany, etc that I had no way of watching. I tried watching Calzaghe-Lacy on some kind of primitive pirate site and it was interrupted before the fight was on for too long. So when international fights started becoming more available through youtube and other streaming services, love'em or hate'em, at least I have fights to tune in for most weekends. That is preferable. Though I still miss HBO, Showtime, ESPN showing men's boxing, etc.

The days of boxing on 'regular' TV, esp. back when there were only three channels to choose from when I was a kid, seems like ancient history. Now excuse me junior, it's time for my Metamusical and nap..zzzzz

 

This era, with the exception of certain standouts, quite frankly is sucking.........................And I mean every division as a whole. There are fighters that I will still watch, there are some extremely S-tier fighters out there, obviously I still watch fights but there is nothing I'm clamoring to see.

 

The sport of boxing is unforgiving. For fighters and fans.
