ROy Jones resume is superior. There is really no discussion. He beat better champions. Beat more champions and won titles across multiple divisions.

Exactly. I was reading it like "wow, Hopkins has 20 defenses, that's impressive" then I read Jones Jr's and was like "close the book."

I'm not sure if Oscar was a legit top 10 P4P guy when Hopkins fought him. I'd omit him, myself, but I see your point and it still stands.

Hopkins does not have a strong case to be rated above RJJ. But if he becomes lineal heavyweight champion at 45...the longevity card already making up most of his case would be so much bigger...

    Exactly.

And then we have Calzaghe, who Jones beat down severely, but Hopkins was able to have a competitive fight with.

Trinidad? Seriously? Bernard beat him when he was still winning and significant. Jones fought a retired Trinidad who had been out of the ring for 3 years. :-(

Tarver? Uhmmm no. Jones did beat him right after Ruiz (the last two meaningful wins of his career)...and then this happened:

Oh yeah, and then this happened:

What followed that up? Another loss to Tarver, KO by Friday, and a nice decision loss to who? Oh yeah, Bernard Hopkins!

I've not given this much thought, but at the moment I personally feel Hopkins' legacy will surpass Jones' if he were to beat Pascal like he did Pavlik.

Your a fool for judging jones career when he was well past his prime. After moving down from heavy there is no doubt that he had some serious problems. What is he had retired then? what would we all be saying?

Meh, that's kind of a lame one too. I can get the argument that Hops fought a lot more of them when it mattered, but the fact of the matter is that between them, they fought one prime great, and that was Jones over Toney. Next closest think it probably Jones's win over Hopkins or Jones over Hill. You can argue Hopkins over Pavlik, but that was two weight classes up from Pavlik's weight.

Oscar was WAY over his ideal weight
Tito was well over his ideal weight and never really did **** as a middleweight (at the time the win looked great, but it hasn't aged well IMO)
Tarver is a solid win, but he was only rated for beating a shot Jones
Winky was way past his best and ten pounds over the highest weight he'd previously fought at
    He lost to Calzaghe
Pavlik was ten pounds over his weight, although it's still a solid win

I do think Jones deserves a debit for at least one loss to Tarver. But the second Hopkins fight and the Calzaghe fight are meaningless from Jones' perspective. Nobody says Sugar Ray Robinson is less great because he lost a bunch of fights when he was old and shot. I don't understand why people do that for Roy.

Bernard Hopkins cleaned out the Middleweight division and held court for 8 ****ing years. Don't be a moron.

Those who say "oh boy Roy Jones beat Hopkins when it mattered most"

Really? Bernard Hopkins was just a few years removed from Prison. While Hopkins was in prison Roy was active. It only took Roy 17 years to grow the stones to get back in the ring with B-Hop because he saw the improvements Hopkins made over time.

Hopkins got out of Prison in '88 before Roy even turned Pro. He had his first fight at light heavy and lost then went down to Middleweight, and the rest is history.

    Jorge Vaca (Middleweight)

    Jorge Castro (Middleweight)

    Bernard Hopkins (Middleweight)

    Thulani Malinga (Super Middleweight)

    Thomas Tate (Middleweight)

    James Toney (Super Middleweight)

    Vinny Pazienza (Super Middleweight)

    Tony Thornton (Super Middlewight)

    Merqui Sosa (Light Heavyweight)

    Mike McCallum (Light Heavyweight)

    Montell Griffin (Light Heavyweight)

    Virgil Hill (Light Heavyweight)

    Reggie Johnson (Light Heavyweight)

    Eric Harding (Light Heavyweight)

    Julio Cesar Gonzalez (Light Heavyweight)

    Clinton Woods (Light Heavyweight)

    John Ruiz (Heavyweight)

    Antonio Tarver (Light Heavyweight)

it's not even debatable, as of right now. :deal
