On a related note, Lewis would never have lost to Rahman had he not been KOED. In fact, if it had been the other way around like it was in their second fight, Lewis would have won.

I think that one of my favorite excuses is when people say that a guy ran too much or wouldn't stand and fight. If your opponent is running it's your job to catch him you can't blame a guy for not letting his opponent tee off on his head.

Agreed. It's bull**** when people excuse Duran's quit-job in New Orleans because Leonard "clowned too much".

Then cut off the damn ring and make him pay!

It's not as if Leonard was the first man to showboat and clown versus Duran, nor was Duran someone who never did some taunting himself.

 

Also the Duran excuse for being out of shape for Hearns,Leonard (rematch) and Benitez. Yet then Duran beats not great fighters like Moore and Barkley and he is in shape for them. Why would he not train for the great fighters and train for the not great ones? Duran is the king of excuses.

And anybody can say that Kessler isn´t great..BUT he gave joe c. one of the toughest fights in his career.And that comes from Calzaghe himself.

 

That still doesn't fit the example. The fact that you have to defend the win is proof that there are excuses around it. As far as Mayweather Hatton is concerned I have heard a ton of people use the weight and the ref as an excuse.

Actually Duran was in great shape against Benitez.

They talk about it in his book about how he trained on some island and made the weight fairly easily.

Duran said he hated the island because it was filled with convicts and it messed with his training or something.

Duran had lots of excuses for his poor performances.

I personally dont think that Duran ranks as high as alot of people. I would have him somewere between 15 and 20 All time.
