No, Martinez duped the public for a paycheck when he knew his knees were finished.

    BARRY MCGUGIAN v steve cruz

cruz was a replacement for an argentianian whose name i forget but mcguigan was still meant to beat him quite easily

he would have IMO if they never has the fight in the day time / in the open air /in the middle of the desert

roberto duran v kirkland laing = laing a fighter who barley had his hands about his shorts v the snarling duran and laing won.

Honeyghan was the mandatory for all 3 belts at the time. He won an eliminator with Sylvester Mittee--so Curry had to fight him. Slight tangent but it was same day weigh-ins then...and Curry was long time struggling...then dead...at the weight. He should have vacated his belts and gone up to LM after unifying against Milton McCrory. To this day I reckon the initially scheduled fight with Mike McCallum would have produced a different result than the damaged goods delayed one that occurred after Curry had preferred to stick around at WW...and had his body and confidence wrecked by Honeyghan.

Don't see any presumed cherry picking there TBH. i reckon all 10 fighters thought it could be a competitive challenge. However they worked out, I don't believe any opponents were viewed as easy pickings by fighters or public....which is effectively the question subject.

Like everyone else except for 5 people on here, you were saying Martinez was an ATG middleweight who was going to ko Cotto. Then when Cotto exposed Martinez, you invent this ridiculous excuse. You have no credibility.

Most recently Haye vs Bellew I.

Haye was supposed to knock Bellew out for a high payday and thought it would be a tune-up fight.

Roy Jones getting his Glass Jaw shattered by Glen Johnson. Jones thought he could cherry pick a trinket belt and call himself a ‘champion’ again and ended up getting savagely KOed by a feather fisted opponent.

Martinez did not cherry pick Cotto. It was the other way around. Martinez, when he had 2 good knees! had been calling out Cotto for years. Roach advised Cotto to steer clear until he saw a hobbled Martinez.

That said, I was glad to see Cotto serve up that humble pie as Martinez seemed to have a serious personal issue with Cotto.
