So you go from being a journey man who no one has ever heard of to pulling off the biggest upset in sports history, he then gets a 20 million dollar payday along with all type of endorsements and a shitty video game.

Buster Douglas, while not at all known by the general public, was well known to fans of late 1980s HW boxing. He had given Tony Tucker a good fight for the IBF belt, prior to running out of gas and getting stopped. While most of us thought Tyson would wipe him out within five rounds, he was still a legitimate world class HW, if one seen as a bit of an underachiever.

How long do you think Tyson trained for the fight.

He actually has a **** load of tools to work with

Bt didn't commit to the art like he should have done

Tyson didn't train at all, but even a peak tyson would have had a tough fight that night

The game plan was spot on aswell
Tyson was a tiny hw, Douglas had a world class jab that pushed tyson way out of striking distance

Which also allowed James to land huge shots with little risk

Being so ill prepared, meant tyson had nothing in the tank near the end, and Douglas connected with some huge shots

The cynic would say it was going to happen the first time tyson met someone who executed this game plan

But Douglas deserves a lot of credit

Douglas got cheated out of most of the money he was supposed to be paid. There's a video out there of him talking about it.

i think if douglas hadn't got lazy and complacent(easy for me to say) it could've been longer than 15 minutes.

Guy got complacent and didn't train with the same intensity. If Tyson under-trained in Tokyo, then you have to admit that Douglas did as well.

The guy was no journeyman get your facts straight. His mother just passed away so you get the fight dedicated to his mother. For that night only he becomes an atg. Of course, Mike wasn't at his best and his corner wasn't either. He was getting lazy and tryin to knock Buster out one punch at a time and his head movement not there either. Still, Buster coulda beaten many heavyweights that night, not just Tyson.

He didn't get as much of that money as he should have, I think he said on howard stern he may have cleared less than 50k in the tyson fight and under 1 million in the holyfield fight. Sad really, a lack of education and inability to read or unwillingness to read is a sad sad thing. I think one should be required to force read a contract at the championship level and be literate.

On the otherhand, Douglas fought like a mother****er. He got knocked down and got up and whopped tyson's ass like his punches didn't mean ****. Douglas hardly got tired despite going toe to toe with tyson for like 10 rounds. Ain't more than 2-3 fighters in all of history who'd beat Douglas on that night.

Tyson didn't train seriously for that fight. In fact, he got knocked down in sparring and his trainer complained about not being able to get Tyson out of bed to go jogging.

Bill Cayton said he believed Tyson had gotten fat due to not training hard and then he starved himself to make weight, hence why he seemed so lazy and lethargic.

You can see tyson looking quite chubby in the short video where he gets off the plane in the long white coat, where hes chewing a chocolate bar.

Sugar Ray also said Tyson didnt seem to be all there from the start of the fight.

Theres 2 seperate stories involved here, 1 is that you have the ****y, undefeated, unmotivated champ who was living it up and not taking training seriously and secondly you have the challenger, who just lost his mother, his girlfriend just split up with him, he was downtrodden and overlooked.

Tyson wasn't all quite there since he took ALOT of drugs and partied pretty hard. He was overlooking douglas like everyone else and belived his hype and didn't get down to bras tax and worked.

Buster Douglas wasn't no joke, his problem was stamina.. other than that he had given good heavyweights hell, like Zakman said.
