I just thought about it, how about Anthony pettis and Nate Diaz go at it.

Winner is next in line after Jim Miller. I believe Miller will get his shot soon.

Miller is fighting Nate Diaz in a 5 rounder in May.

I think the UFC is going to sell the Bendo-Pettis rematch and in the meanwhile, Diaz-Miller gets next crack. At some point, Edgar will get a chance to earn his rematch, if they hold off on giving Diaz-Miller the shot then it'll be against that winner.

    Barboza is fighting Evan Dunham.

I say Melendez Vs Pettis in a no.1 contenders match :yep

Pettis Barboza would be awesome. I think Edgar should get the rematch if he wants it.

Pettis is only coming off of 2 wins. Guida didn't get his shot after 4 wins. Miller didn't get his shot after 7 wins. Diaz is on 2 good wins and he is having to fight again to get a title shot. Cerrone was on 6 wins.

Pettis got the fancy ko and the history but that is a bad precedent to get you a title shot.

Melendez has 6 wins and avenged his losses but that can't even get him into the UFC let alone a title shot.

It does get him £150,000 basic pay though.

I don't know why people get so butthurt on behalf of Melendez. Yes its a shame he's stuck in Strikeforce fighting cans but that division is no worse than it was in January 2011 when he resigned with Strikeforce. He knew what he was signing on for. Unless something strange happens he's not moving while Strikeforce is around. At least not for this year. They promised Showtime. And Melendez vs Thompson 3 is as good a fight he's going to get until the move happens.

Moaning about Pettis receiving a title shot is stupid, particularly when you cite Jim Miller as the alternative. Miller has won precisely one fight in a row. Pettis has won two. Miller was comfortably beaten by Henderson last year in a one-sided domination. Pettis beat Henderson in all-time great contest.

More than that Miller-Diaz is already booked. If Miller beats Diaz then he gets a title shot. This is not about taking away their title shot, its about trying to give Henderson something to do while the Miller-Diaz winner recuperates.

The money is lovely but the Dana likes to often talk about the credibility of the sport, the best fighting the best, the UFC being the NFL of MMA etc

Henderson Pettis 2 is going to happen next , thats a given !!!

The only way that this fight will not happen is if the UFC grant Edgar a rematch on principle , which they never really do , and tbh , as much i like Frankie im not sure he 100% deserves one , he lost the fight pretty much fair and square and Pettis is in line now , he's done his bit to get the fight IMO

Melendez is under contract with Strikeforce :deal

Is that so hard to comprehende ??? , the problem with the title picture is that nobody @55 right now is on a title contention run , but !!! , Pettis holds a KO win over the new champ who has raised the bar again after Edgar had already done that , thats pretty big , it just has the natural PR angle that the UFC will fire down the throat of the whole MMA world when the announcement gets made

Sidenote : i think Pettis is shite tbh , id fancy 5 or 6 of the top 55'ers to do a number on the guy , but right time right place for him
