Who would you have and why?

Would it be Johnson, the defensive master?
Dempsey or Rocky the murderous punchers?
    Holy the multi dimensional legend?

Or would it be a heavier man drained down like Joe Louis, Jersey Joe Walcott?

Maybe even a lighter man bulked up like Charles, Tunney, Toney or Jones Jr?

Or would it be someone totally different?

Who's your pick for king of 190 and below?

i wanted to pick charles, but in marciano 1 they were both under 190 so i'm going with rocky over a still improving holyfield.

    Dempsey all the way.

Given that specific weight, I can't pick against him!

These days I'm leaning more and more towards Jack Dempsey, but my pick would be Marciano...in a word,... relentless.

I would have said Holyfield but he would weigh more on fight night. A rookie Holyfield at the very start of his career i.e first 10 fights is not someone I'd be comfortable picking.

For me, it's between Michael Spinks, Rocky Marciano and Ezzard Charles.

Spinks vs Marciano making the final most probably.

    Marciano wins

The man who refused to lose!

Marciano is my pick as the best at a 190 limit -- and he weighed under 190lbs 45 times out of 49 as a pro, so would be dedicated to staying in fighting trim and making the limit.

I'll throw in some other names which haven't yet been mentioned, for consideration in a theoretical 190lb tournament:

*Gene Tunney (weighed 189.75 for both Dempsey fights. Possessed an excellent defence, movement and ring generalship. The contrast with Marciano would make for an intruiging contest -- could Tunney outbox and decision Marciano? Could Marciano close the distance on Tunney and wirk him over?)

*Maxie Rosenbloom (a legendary light heavyweight, fought at around 190 several times in the latter part of his career. Featherfisted, but a superb defensive fighter by all accounts, and had a good chin.)

*Also, how do you think bulked-up light heavyweights Bob Foster and Michael Moorer would have fared at 190?

Along with Louis and Walcott, the Jack Johnson of 1908 onwards would have had to drain down to make 190, and stay in constant shape and refrain from drinking and partying in order to ensure he could continue to make the limit. He weighed in at 192 for the fight with Tommy Burns in 1908.

Were Johnson to stay fit, active and off the booze, and be able to safely make 190, he wins a tournament at this specified weight, IMO. Granted, those are extremely big ifs. :yep

I'd have Holy over The Rock by decision in a gloriously bruising 15-round final.
