A little compassion is due with regard to Oscar`s getting bludgeoned into retirement by Paquiao. They all go this way, don`t they? When you do battle with father time, he tempted fate and lost. Ali, Louis, Frazier,Arguello happens to the best of them. Oscar truly fought them all, he represented the sport with class. And always spoke like a gentleman win or lose..Sure he made big bucks, but he put the sport back on the front page. And he always, always fought his heart out. He had more than a few losses on his record. But he dared to be great and fight the best. Just last year losing a thisclose decision to the p4p king Mayweather. You will hear all the naysayers he wasn`t all that and he got what he deserved. But I beg to differ and I truly enjoyed what he brought to the sport. He lost to another class act in Paquiao, who also displayed a ton off class. Boxing is in dire need of that next great boxer with crossover appeal. Where is he????
Good post. I was also impressed by Oscar making a point of comming into the fight at the right weight...........I fully expected him to outweigh Pac by 20 pounds by fightnight......... Pac is a force of nature though, and even at his very best Oscar would have had a problem with him........ I was pleasently suprised by a 'superfight' that, though it was supposed to be showcasing all thats bad in boxing, wound up giving everyone a peek at whats so great about it. Props to both men.
