    I'm looking for somewhere to start boxing in Glasgow. Complete amateur and starting late at 25 but in good shape

    I stay southside so was considering Peter Harrison's gym, any good?

    I am actually planning to take it seriously so any recommendations of where to join would be appreciated??

    Cheers

    Peter Harrison's gym doesn't have alot of amateurs so I don't know if it would be the best to join. There's a good one in Pollockshaws in the Key to Life gym called Noble Art ABC. It's had a few good boys over the years although i think one of the coaches left and a few of the good boys left with him.

    Here's a list of some of the boxing clubs in Scotland;

    The Renfrewshire ABC in Paisley has a good rep and isn't too far away from the soo'side!!

    Right.... I've been round a couple of gyms tonight (Morrison's & Ibrox). Morrison's looks like a decent gym and the guy who was running the desk seems like a sound lad but it's actually a lot further from my flat than expected so I think it's out. I couldn't see Peter Harrison's gym anyhere... everything looked boarded up????:huh

    Went along to Ibrox, seemed busy, spoke to a guy called Stuart (?)... he mentioned Peter Harrison was running a night at the Bellahouston centre tomorrow at 6 so probably going to stick my head in tomorrow.

    Reason I'm posting, this is really the first time I've done any boxing. I'm not too worried about fitness because I keep well but I was wondering what gear I'll need??

    I bought raps the other day... anything else?? Cheers

    The thing about Morrisons is that it's only a pro gym so you won't be able to compete in the amateurs.

    Not quite sure where Harrisons gym is tbh mate.

    I thought Morrison's seemed just more like a DIY gym, the guy taking me round said there are currently no coaches.... good equipment though, if I lived closer I probably would have sorted out a membership

    If you live near Paisley then you could try the Renfrewshire ABC?

    Cheers anyway mate but think I've found my gym. I went a long to the bellahouston centre and was put through my paces...... in bits today :dead

    Really enjoyed it though, I've done plenty of football training before but that didn't prepare me for the upperboddy work. Went in and was made to feel welcome, the moment I was standing still for a second someone else would point me in the direction of another activity.... exactly what I was after

    Bellahouston centre's a strange place for a gym I thought but there's a decent set up of equipment and a ring for sparring... good 3 mile run round the park as well.

    Nearly lasted the full 2hrs, which is not bad for my first vist, I thought. Think I've got the bug.... got home after and spent 2hrs in the mirror trying to work on my left hook, the mrs was pi55ing herself :lol:
