....than Joe Calzaghe has in Wales.

26 of 61 fights in Florida for Johnson = 42.6%.

18 of 45 fights in Wales for Calzaghe = 40%.

    True fact.

After Calzaghe proved that he was a blacker man than Bernard Hopkins, is it now time to remove the phoney 'Road Warrior' tag from Johnson and award that to Calzaghe as well?

I agree I'm thoroughly amazed at the level of perseverance these nuthuggers show to try and validate the career of the Cardiff Ice Rink Champion....perhaps the thread starter should change his name to Gobbler:yep :good

When Calzaghe has fought in England rather than Wales, many times he has been the 'away' fighter facing hostile crowds, especially earlier in his career.

This thread is about fighting on home territory.

And while the thread is, in many ways, troll bait because I'm bored, there is a salient point to be made about how people's perceptions do not always match reality.

Johnson's had 6 title shots & travelled overseas for 4 of them. 5 if u wanna include the Silvio Branco fight.

    And that's epic.

Maybe someone should let the moron that started this thread know that Johnson is from Jamaica and he has never had a fight there which is the reason he is called the road warrior. so in the real world were the non-calzaghe sack suckers live that would be a 0% for Johnson...What a moron :patsch

Exactly, he lives in Miami now but that is not his homeland.

Glen Johnson resides in Florida where he had lived since the age of 15. His entire boxing life has been based there and it's very much his boxing home. Calzaghe, of course, was not born in Wales either, but no-one would dispute it as being his boxing home.

    Nice try, unlucky.

When was the last time anyone tried to hand Glen Johnson P4P top-3 ranking? My guess is he would be more highly scrutinized if his fans in Florida were trying to claim he's the best fighter of the last 25 years.

glen johnson is a have gloves will fight fighter.
road warrior tag is well suited.

calzaghe has been a stay at home fighter for much of his career .

uk is small so calzaghe fans can travel if they wish to his fights.

it is not easy fighting in the other mans backyard and home advantage is big in boxing.

but calzaghe is no different to top american fighters in the same position he is.

in fact calzaghe has fought overseas more than
james toney/roy jones/odlh/mosely/ tarver/dawson/pavlik/taylor/mayweather/ combined if you add up all the times they have fought a foreigner abroad it adds up to 1 single james toney fight in a nuetral venue.

there is definatley one rule for american based fighters and another for european based fighters on esb.

Calzaghe was such a fighter earlier in his career. Going to fight Delaney in Brentwood for the British title? Distances aren't relevant here, are they?

Calzaghe though, won all his crunch 'away' matches. Whereas, if we look at the 5 overseas title shots for Johnson cited above, he only won one of them, hence reducing the potential for easy defences in Florida.

Are we really talking about differences in psyche, then, or just differences in circumstances?
