From an interview with ESPN: Johnson is a guy who has consistently taken hard fights for less than top dollar. I hope he beats Bute and gets a massive pay day in his next bout. Can't think of a fighter who deserves it more.
He lost to Froch and Bute is better than Froch. Wrong style for Johnson, but I like to see him fight.............
Glen Johnson is a top bloke, can never root against him. Disagree with Bute being better than Froch, huge difference in competition for obvious reasons.
Johnson will always be a bit of a mystery to me. The salient factor in most fighters being able to stay competitive at world level well into old age is the fact that they don't take many punches, and haven't accumulated much damage over the years. Now I know Johnson is a very good boxer, but he has been tagged clean by good punchers over the years. It is a testament to his will and natural toughness that he can still go a hard 12 rounds with a top puncher at supermiddleweight.
I don't think so. Bute's speed and timing are all wrong for Froch. His stance, power and lateral movement also. Froch is often the smarter fighter (ring IQ) but against Bute he wouldn't have the edge. I guess we're just ... guessing. The super 6 final will show us how Froch can cope with skilled fighters.
I know your not exactly bashing Froch here and just giving your opinion, but wasn't pretty much everyone Froch has fought been stylistically a bad match up for him? Taylor fighting in the US against Froch in his US debut, being the more accomplished fighter. Dirrell with having the speed and movement to avoid Froch's slow, telegraphed punches (although Dirrell was, and still is, largely unproven). Abraham having the explosive 1 punch power to tag and KO Froch with his non-existent defence. Johnson having the timing and slickness to hit and not be hit by Froch. My point is, Froch cannot be ruled out of a fight based on an analysis which underestimates the strength of Froch's style. Yes Froch lacks the technical ability of Ward, yes he lacks the speed of Dirrell etc, but he more than makes up for it in sheer force of will and determination. He is a huge puncher, awesome chin and always comes to fight. I think he really is one of a kind. I'm not having a go at you or owt, not even saying Froch would win/lose, just highlighting something which I think is quite often overlooked.
Yes for Taylor (who was winning on points before the KO) and Dirrell (who could have got the decision, even if he was a very green fighter), no for the others. Abraham and Johnson presented no stylistic challenge for Froch. Against Ward, Froch will face someone slick and as determined and durable as him. That is a real challenge. You are right though, Froch cannot be ruled out of any fight. It would not be the first time I make a bad prediction about him.
i'm glad johnson is getting the fight. always been a big fan of his. he's great for boxing and i hope he gives a good showing. i really wish i could attribute that quote to kelly pavlik. sadly though...
the Kelly Pavlik hate continues. It amazes me how fighters people back argue about 5 vs. 6 million per fight...Kelly Pavlik makes a stink because he's fighting for 50k and finds out a few days before the fight and people act like the dude's a primadonna.
This "few days before the fight" shyte is absurd. Kelly's smarter than that. You know that. Even his own people say that is/was not the case.
