I believe this. When you look at the all-time great 40+ fighters, like Bernard Hopkins, many of them had to modify their styles to cope with the physical decline of age. Glen Johnson, at the age of 41 and after 67 fights, is still fighting in the same style as always. Some he loses (Dawson, Cloud), some he wins (Green, Mack), but the very fact that the Road Warrior is able to still compete and remain relevant at this point is truly remarkable. His performance against Allan Green reminded me why I love this sport so much. Johnson has his haters on this forum, but I hope history smiles kindly on him. What a fighter. :bbb
I agree, he's a tough, tough man. Although Allan Green hasn't done ANYTHING since he knocked out heavily hype prospect Jaidon Codrington back in '05. He didn't belong in the tournament.
Johnson deserves respect whether you hate him or love him. The man has been underrated all his life and still he brings his A game when he's in the ring.
Whats more amazing is how 14 losses 2 draws G Johnson gets so overated on ESB, when hes a fighter that tends to lose most of the time he steps up. atsch Years ago Johnson couldnt last with the SMWs but this current crop arent as good as previous and he is now a S6 fighter :dead. Remember how years ago he was beaten by Branco and Ottke who gets alot of ridicule on here. But lets not pretend Johnson was unlucky against Ottke, because Ottke out boxed him and won fairly
I respect Glenn Johnson, I appreciate his worth and value, but in no way, shape, form, or fashion is he a great fighter...IMO. Again, I really like him and I'm happy he got this win, he's earned it, but I see nothing about him that's great per se.
He actually has changed his style quite a bit. Watch his old fights. He fights the same as he did 6 or 7 years ago, but not the same as he did 10 years ago. He improved considerably when he started to focus more on subtle movement, pressure and workrate than when he used to focus more on trying to outbox the other guy.
Glen seems like a decent human being but hes only a C+ level fighter, a win over Alan Green should not get anyone props hes worst than garbage, Glens claim to fame is his KO over a worst than shot Roy Jones Jr.
He is. Glen is a throw back fighter, like a McCallum, not in style, but in attitude, and he's a great guy.
he beat allan green, the fighter everybody was saying shouldn't be in the super six because he's not good enough, now you got johnson who beat this not good enough fighter, and you now got people who's saying johnson is great? come on, get real. if johnson beat someone like calzaghe, then i would of understood it, but green?
