That is the fight I want to see now. The "Road Warrior" may seriously test Calzaghe and take him into deep waters. Remember Johnson already defeated Dawson in his last fight and he never takes backwards steps. He is also very busy and aggressive.

If it happens, Calzaghe may win a close decision but it will be a difficult fight for him. IMO Calzaghe has to box most of the time and not trade with the very tough Johnson who certainly has the edge in power.

Calzaghe should win that one as i honestly cant see him being beat by anyone at the moment. Would certainly be a bigger test than Jones tho. At least Johnson will throw punches back instead of sitting on the ropes and taking it.

only trouble i see making this fight is calzaghe is self promoted and johnson does not have finacial backing , so who is going to put up johnson`s purse ?

calzaghe can get his own cut from tv rights and stadium live gate revenue, but would seminole boxing be prepared to pay johnson the big money he will want ?

Even though i would pick Calzaghe, i want to see this fight purely based on entertainment value... The amount of punches that would get thrown, plus the fact neither takes a backwards step and both having good chins . . . Bring it on lol!

Johnson would certainly be competitive, but he's getting older too, Calzaghe would probably outwork him. I would rather see a rematch between Glen Johnson and Chad Dawson.

Anyways, IMO Calzaghe-Hopkins II is the fight that really needs to happen, since the outcome of their first fight was debatable and Hopkins seems rejuvenated. This would probably be the biggest fight in 2009, and why not stage it in Cardiff? It would generate a lot of cash and questions would be answered. A good fight for boxing, it makes so much sense.

This is one of the few fights left that makes sense for Joe...Johnson's close fight with Dawson would make it justifiable to pick either, but the bad blood between Johnson and Calzaghe adds another dimension to the fight.

This fight should be made.....I'd favor Calzaghe on points here.

I think Hopkins is the fight that makes the most sense legacy-wise, although it is close; go after a definitive win against one of the few real 'names' he ever fought, someone who has proven that they can compete with him and lost a very close SD to attempt to erase all doubt OR go after a younger, potential p4per in their obvious prime, which would erase all doubt about having never fought a p4p top ten in their prime, but who has a lower name recognition factor and thus a lower payday? The Glen Johnson fight makes the least sense to me, as it is high risk--as Johnson is still mighty competitive--and low reward--as Johnson could easily be dismissed as another 'old man', one with quite a few losses on his ledger (robberies or not) and doesn't have nearly the drawing power of Hopkins or probably Dawson. Imagine trying to hype what should be a legacy fight with an opponent with around 10 losses on his record. Most of the general public would laugh, not knowing much about Johnson and his history of robberies.

The risk/reward depends on what he really wants; all are dangerous fights but I think Johnson is automatically out, just too high risk, and the reward is just too low--he knows that right or wrong if he ends his career with a fight against Johnson that if he wins it was a washed-up old man; if he loses, well even worse.

Dawson is probably second more likely as it provides a top 15 p4p guy in his prime, who has won against solid opposition and brings a decent bit of money/name to the bargaining table. If he wins this fight, he can go out saying he fought THE man at the time of both SMW and LHW, at their primes (for what that's worth in Lacy's case) and won. If he loses, well, he loses to the widely acknowledged #1 contender, above his natural weight, and at a point in his career when he is clearly not at his prime and it is seen as a sort of 'passing of the torch' to the new generation, think Chavez V. De La Hoya, and I guarantee he makes quite a few fans from it in the boxing community.

The Hopkins fight, from a risk/reward sense makes the most, to my thinking. He beat Hopkins once, yeah, but it was a very close fight (I had Cal winning the first time I watched and Hopkins the second time, when sober) and many people doubted the win and felt there was certainly cause for a rematch, no matter how dull. Hopkins also brings by far the most money to the table. He also makes the most money (make no mistake, this WILL be a moneymaker if held in Wales, what with it being Calzaghe's last fight and Hopkins fresh off the dominant win over arguably the most marketable and mainstream American fighter outside of De La Hoya). In terms of win/loss analysis I think that if Joe wins this then he erases all doubt about the victory over Hopkins. If he loses, well he already beat him once, and in that case there would be a HUGELY lucrative rubber match on the horizon, should they decide to go again.

So to me, the fight that makes the most sense is Hopkins; the one I'd like to see the most is Dawson.

Err, 'the man' who Calzaghe beat at SMW was Kessler, not Lacy. Kessler also ticks the same boxes as Dawson in terms of being a probable future consensus top ten P4P fighter in his prime. Like Dawson, a fair number of people have him there already.

I think Calzaghe would beat Johnson but depending on how Joe fights depends on how easy he wins. If he uses his head and box's Johnson then Joe wins by conclusive UD. However if he gets caught, and Johnsons will hit Joe quite often with his unrelenting pressure, and Joe choses to go into a brawl then the fight will be a lot closer. Joe still wins but he wins by a SD,MD or close UD in an exciting back and forth brawl.

I include Kessler on being the man at SMW, and he is certainly top 15 p4p and would most likely be higher if his promoters really turned him loose. I was referring to the prospect of ALSO going out with a win over the man at LHW; not a whole lot of fighters can claim being linear champ in a division, beating the top contender, beating the acknowledged champ a weight class higher and then beating the top contender in THAT division as 3 of their last 4 fights.
