Promoter Salvatore Cherchi has announced that former WBA world light heavyweight champion Silvio Branco has been officially named challenger of WBC light heavyweight king Adrian Diaconu. On August 15, Cherchi will be in Mexico City to participate to the purse bid at WBC headquarters.

Was Diaconu the interim champ, and now been given full paper champion status?

Glen was worth at least a draw in the Dawson fight :deal

Why does the WBC keep recycling the undeserving Silvio Branco? Clearly Glen Johnson is a far better choice.

It's a similar question to the one Bob Arum posted about old fighters like Tito, BHop & RJJ.

lets face it, he has a double digit loss record and hes a dangerous figher. Big danger, low reward.

No way was that a draw I had 116-12 Dawson. Yes Johnson was the aggressor but that does not win him the fight. Having said that though Silvio Branco does not deserve a title shot, Glen Johnson was very competitve against Dawson and should fight Diaconu. I personally think he would have a great shot at stopping Diaconu.

Erdei is a bum who will soon be beaten when he fights a REAL contender.

Erdei probably doesn't want a shot

He is more than happy hiding behind a belt and being touted as the linear champion

Whether he is or not is open to debate - a guy cannot really be stripped, even if he fights a succession of bums

Oh, and BTW - Clinton Woods isn't no good. He was just **** against Tarver :deal

    Correction - very ****

Erdei is not a bum but the fool does not want to fight no real competition. He is been fighting bums for so long now that I feel he could lose to any decent guy now.

What makes it worse is that he holds the WBO title

How a guy can hold the WBO title making a string of defences is beyond me, regardless of who the fighter is

Vacating a strap to avoid facing a chump mando is better than hiding behind a title
