I need to rewatch, but I actually scored it in favor of Johnson 115-113. On my card, Glen got rounds 3, 4, 5, 9, 10, 11 and 12. I had rounds 6 (CD), 9 (GJ) and 11 (GJ) marked as very close. Chad would have won with all three of my close rounds, or gotten a draw with two of the three. No problem with the decision and I'm happy my man won, though.
Same as judges here. Just because someone hurts another guy it doesn't affect the scoring of the other rounds. How people can be a big enough of a fan of this sport to post on a boxing forum, and NOT know how a fight is scored is mind boggling.
Interesting. I was hoping and predicting for an 8-4 type victory, but I didn't see it unfold that way. Do you have your RbR available? Several respected posters here seem to have Dawson at either 7-5 or 8-4. Perhaps I was judging Dawson too harshly, although in general I'll give the guy coming forward the benefit of the doubt. Need to watch it again.
I have a hard time getting an 8-4 score in favor of Dawson, which is why I need to watch the fight again. It does seem valid to me, though, that it's fair to score rounds in favor of the guy coming forward, if he's getting a stronger reaction out of his opponent when he's punching than the inverse. Do you have your card handy that you'd be willing to share?
Yeah but he didnt win the last 8 which seems to be all you have to win in a fight for many on this site. Lose the 6 of the first 8 rounds win 3 of the last four and you win the fight, well that is the way that people on this site see it. Plus many of the people that things Johnson won also happen to be Calzaghe fans, how interesting is that since Ole Joey rejected a fight with Dawson:hey Let us not forget that he pulled out of 212 fights with Johnson.:rofl
The scoring for this fight was disgusting !!! How any judge can score any of the last 4 rds for Dawson is on crack !
Dawson won round 11. Johnson landed a good shot then got hammered the rest of the round. I will say this No one at ringside had Johnson winning the fight. I dont think that it was some kind of set up. People on these site many times have other motives for why they think someone won or lost a fight. Dawson won the fight he won more rounds, and the last four isnt anymore important then the first four..Plus you could say the same thing about giving Johnson the first four rounds you would have to be on crack.
GJ came forward, was the aggressor, took the fight to Dawson, landed the harder shots throughout, and hurt Dawson a couple of times. I can see it Dawon's way if his higher workrate equated to cleaner punches but that wasn't the case. GJ not only was the aggressor but he landed the CLEANER and HARDER shots. When i heard the scores were unanimous at 8-4, i thought it was GJ for sure. Bull**** scoring IMO. The judges were persuaded by the prettier face.
I pretty much agree with this. People here talk about effective aggression, and while at times it was obvious Glen Johnson's offense was not that effective, I didn't find Chad Dawson's combinations to be very effective either. Is this the amatuers? Do we give points for throwing punches? I do think that perhaps Chad Dawson could have pulled it out just by being more active in some rounds and landing clean, if not seemingly very effective, shots while Glen Johnson chased him around. I get the feeling that the official scores were off, and same with the press scores actually. I distinctly remember seeing them and wondering how they were getting their scores. However, since I didn't keep score perhaps I will try and find it and give it another viewing. In anycase I don't really have any burning desire to see Chad Dawson again, while I would really like to see Glen Johnson.
I was at the fights and had awesome seats, I could see every inch of the ring....Johnson won that fight! Giving every benefit of the doubt to Dawson, I still had Johnson winning 7 to 5. Dawson fought the whole fight in retreat mode. Johnson used steady pressure and would pick off a lot of Dawson's punches with his gloves and forearms. And Johnson had Dawson badly hurt a couple of times in that fight. If you gave all of the benefit of the doubt to Johnson then you could have had him winning it 8 to 4 or 9 to 3.
I just watched the replay and scored it 115-114 Johnson, I thought Johnson landed the harder shots and thought he also blocked a good amount of Dawson's punches.
