Would have been a good fight before Lacy destroyed his shoulder. I like Johnson's work rate and toughness. I was ringside when Johnson fought Cloud and if he could handle that guy who looked like a Cruiserweight that night, he could handle Lacy. Johnson was tough as nails and pretty solid defensively. His body attack would slow Lacy down.
He actually lost the decision but it was close. Cloud hit him with some huge shots but he stood in there with him all night. It was a great fight.
It was one of my favorite moments in boxing. I was so close the ring for that fight. Johnson was definitely the more skilled guy but Cloud's punches sounded like a heavyweights. It was a very physical and underated fight. I was to drunk to score it live but I remember thinking Johnson was winning the majority of the rounds but the sound of Clouds punches was something I will never forget. I have spent the majority of my life in boxing gyms and have seen some legit heavyweights hit the heavy bag but I have never a 175 pounder hit like that live. Johnson walked through all of that ****.
That explains the decision. It didn’t translate into TV but I’ve been to fights where stuff like that was happening and get what you’re saying/understand the outcome now.
Ummmm... I think you need to either rewatch that fight or get your eyes checked. Cloud clearly beat Johnson.
I will rewatch at some point. Johnson is on my watch list after my current series of fights. As for getting my eyes tested, I have better than 20/20 so that isn't necessary. As for Cloud clearly beating Johnson, no way. Nothing clear about that.
