Glen Johnson's Roller Coaster of a Career?

Great great respect to the road warrior. The guy is a true fighter, as he showed vs Green big time. GJ is a true professionel...Green just an US hype job.....

But vs. Froch he will lose. Froch in every way the better, stronger, tougher, more talented and harder fighter.


When i think about Johnson, i think about Jones. He was the US-finest - but how good was he. Jones lost to Johnson, Calzaghe and Danny Green. At the time Hopkins was the top contender, but he then lost to Taylor, Calzaghe and Pascal. Taylor was the biggest newcomer, but he lost to Pavlik, Froch and Abraham.

Pavlik then was the newcomer, but he lost to Hopkins and Martinez.

Dont want to hear more about the giants Jones, Hopkins, Pavlik, Taylor, Dawson, Tarver..and how they would beat every fighter if just............................????????


Time to give max credit to the super six fighters, who all joined in a very though competition, where you signed and risk to face all the best in the division.......

Every time they fight, some one will lose..........GET IT..............!!!

 

He isnt the road warrior for nothing.....he was a top young prospect at middleweight until being stopped for the first and only time against Hopkins...he was a recognizable name and beatable enough to lose close decisions in other fighters backyards.....few of the loses were legit, some controversial, and others highway robbery....his record was deceiving and seeing that he had all those loses but some decent wins, they thought he'd be a save enough opponent for Jones who was gun shy after being kayoed....Although Jones is one of my all-time favorites I was happy for Johnson who made the most out of that opportunity beating Tarver and other top lightheavies and super middleweights

 

True, some were legit though. Glen always makes for close fights though.

 

Glen Johnson frankly amazes me.

For a guy with no outstanding skill or talent in any department, he has done remarkably. He has this awkward, stiff style that looks easy to beat, but really isn't. He wins fights through toughness, workrate, and some clever means of getting punches in. Glen Johnson is a guy who knows how to get his hands on you, one way or another.

I think he's almost the perfect definition of "walking your opponent down".

 

thats what he does, grunts walk you down....he has very good controlled agression, technique never seems to look sloppy even though he isnt the fastest or hardest puncher he is pretty accuarate and good at getting himself in a good postion to land...he does little subtle things in the ring casual fans dont notice

 

This is my first post and as my name probably indicates I'm a huge glen Johnson fan. I've seen a few fights in person and almost all of them in some form of footage. The great thing about him is that he is good and everything and not really great at anything. He'll do and take on anyone and won't complain about anything even some of the terrible decisions that went the other way.

Just look how he acts after knocking Green out, dude checks on him and makes sure he's ok and won't leave his side while green complains the whole time. Glen is a stand up great guy. Everyone should be a fan.

 

Glen Johnson is the rarest of the rare. He was initially an overhyped prospect with an inflated record, gets exposed as such against Hopkins...but instead of crumbling and leaving the sport the way most in that spot wind up doing, he instead uses said inflated record to get fights all over the world and develop into a genuinely good, solid, world class fighter. He's been fighting anyone, anywhere, ever since. He'd fight a gorilla in the rainforest with Donkey Kong as the sole ref and judge without batting an eye. Crazy? Probably. But you've gotta respect that kind of testicular fortitude.

 

Jones is irrelevant, the man was beat far outside of his prime years and there is a legiment reasons to his terrible fall from grace. Taylor was prime, Pavlik was prime, Tarver was never good imo and was just living off of that shot on jones, Dawson was prime... Hopkins is just hopkins... but he is old as hell.

 

I remember how many people thought Yusaf Mack would beat Glen. That sure was funny.

 

i don't get why people say johnson was so far from prime against hopkins. he certainly wasn't at his peak, but a prime hopkins wins against prime glenn any day. that said, once johnson's 0 was lost in such brutal fashion, it made him less marketable, and so the decisions would favor his opponent if they were close. also he fought many people in their hometown, so he was screwed quite often. that's boxing marketing screwing itself. had johnson been awarded the decisions he should've been, boxing would have a true champion at LHW. he is humble, will fight anyone, and will come to fight and go for knockouts. he would have a fan base because of his fan-friendly style, which is pretty active for his weight class. but once you lose your 0, it takes a strong person to rebound. especially when it's lost in such a one-sided beating. besides, how many people have went on to be great after facing hopkins? just jones and johnson. the other 50 are extinct

 

he wasn't exposed, just beaten. no one else has been able to do that. hopkins exposed pavlik. he beat johnson

 

Johnson was cheated out of a win in the first Dawson fight.
