Before my time im afraid. Did anyone see him box here? any good? looked through his record - looks pretty **** poor to be honest... how did he get that IBF shot? im assuming it was a new/weak division. Think i remember him getting battered by Lewis
McCrory was a very entertaining fighter - all action and the atmosphere at his home fights was absolutely electric. I would love to watch some of his fights again.
Nothing spectacular but was very game, was well looked after and eventually got exposed. Packed up at the right time. Sometimes comes across as a bit thick on Sky but clearly loves his boxing. A good guy, I like him (no homo).
Seems like a sharp enough guy to me, certainly by the standards of professional boxing. Think it's just his accent. I agree he's a good guy.
he was entertaining and game, but was only ok imo, but do like they guy, i dont think he would have beaten Enzo Mac though
He was great fun. Could not cope with heavies, but thats why we have divisions. His title fights were superb, the atmosphere was amazing. He had a couple of great British and Commonwealth title fights against Mutti and Tee Jay. His effort to win the title against Lumumba was superb, flooring the guy iirc in the first and being on him the whole way. His first defence was won on heart, he was badly heart 2 oe 3 times in the opening 3 or 4 rounds. Once at the bell where he lay on the ropes for a second in obvious pain, you would have bet your life he was getting stopped next round. He came out absolutely all guns blazing and broke the guys heart, dominated and stopped him. Jim Watt ( i think ) commentating said something like 'I don't think even he believed he could do it but he knew he had to come out and try and turn the tide'. It was and i am not exxagerating saying it, a Gattiesque moment.
What it was, IMO, was an all-time great heavyweight against a man who would struggle to win a world cruiserweight title these days. He'd be knocking on the door though. Fighters of his size benefited massively from the introduction of the then 13st 8lbs division. I liked McCrory - good fighter in a very young division at the time.
He was a decent cruiser and he was entertaining. I'm glad he's done well for himself after boxing and i thought him in Darke were great together in the early sky years.
Good British fighter who was entertaining and full of heart. Probably alot like Enzo in ways and of a similar standard. Good bloke by all accounts.
if the cruiser limit was what it is today he would of been a lot more comfortable at the weight and maybe of champ a little while longer
