Glen Johnson: Open letter to Joe Calzaghe

By Glen Johnson: Dear Joe, Congratulations on your win over Roy Jones last Saturday night. I’m happy to see that you’re finally getting some overdue credit, and now that you’ve accomplished what you wanted to against Jones and Bernard Hopkins, I think it’s time for you and I to settle some unfinished business. I’m sure you remember, but if you don’t, you previously agreed to fight me three times in the past, yet all three times you pulled out of the fight due to injury and we never had the opportunity to give the fans the fight they were all waiting to see..

Well, now is the time to make up for all of that, to finally agree to fight me. You’ve done a lot in your career, but for you to truly cement your legacy, you know we must fight.

I’m well aware that the name Chad Dawson has been tossed around, but I already beat him in the ring and the only people who didn’t know it were the judges who rendered the most controversial decision of 2008. In fact, 80 percent of the viewers watching the fight on Showtime felt that I won. But the fans know, Dawson knows, and you know who won that fight.

So fighting Dawson serves no purpose other than giving him a big payday. To truly prove yourself as the best fighter in the world, pound for pound, fight me, the man who knocked out a prime Roy Jones and beat Antonio Tarver, two accomplishments you can’t claim.

We both know that there is a lot more money for you to make if you fight me.

You know who I am Joe, and my resume speaks for itself. Let’s do this, not only for our legacies, but for the fans.

I have been to England three times. I won the World Title there. Your fans know me, all of England knows me. Nobody knows who Chad Dawson is!

Any time you want, I would love to fight you in Wales. I will be there as soon as you invite me.

    Respectfully,

    “The Road Warrior” Glen Johnson

Doubt very much he 'respectfully' wrote that himself, to say he dissed both Calzaghe and Jones in a video interview a couple of days ago!!

Prob be people in here saying 'Johnson KOs Calzaghe' soon though.
The same ones who said it about Hopkins, Pavlik, Jones. Johnson's their next hope!

    Source?

Calzaghe would box the ears off of Glen Johnson and he would get heavily critisized doing so...

Pointless fight. I like Johnson, but he needs to focus on winning a belt at 175 and ultimately getting a rematch against Dawson, or whoever beats Dawson in the interim.

And the fact that he and everybody else don't think much of Johnson might be the reason Calzaghe could get a shocker if he takes this fight. Glen ain't the person you wanna underestimate, that's for sure. And Johnson would walk thru all his punches. I also think Glen is stronger than Joe, and would ruff him up.

Joe will get critised regardless, whether a fighters old or young.

Glen is still a top light heavy and still a name, the only name after Dawson. I think this is an oponent Joe would look good against, but Johnson needs to get himself in the picture again, winning a belt would do that, but still no guarentee with that.

Calzaghe hasnt said he will box on for another fight yet.

I think Dawson's the only real fight out there
Can't see it happening though as Dawson isn't really a known name / doesn't bring much money to the table.

A Carl Froch fight would be big in Britain if Froch beats Pascal for the WBC title, Froch is largely unproven though so who knows if that will happen or not!

I think he should probably retire, no real stand out fights left. A Hopkins fight would be good as the first one was so close, but it sure ain't a good fight to end a career on as it'd be boring as anything!

This would actually be a good fight for calzaghe to put on a clinic in front of his home fans this may happen
