i used to like McCrory but now he just looks like a complete twat, where is Glenn on the ATG list ? is there a number big enough?
That needs to be read in its context. He was questioning Mayweather's bravery and willingness to stand toe-to-toe. Broner, because of his crap footwork and lesser defence, has shown more tendencies to stand and trade. I very much doubt he's implying Broner is a better boxer than him.
JMM fight was a complete farce, agreed a catchweight, then blatantly didn't bother to try and make it.
Hmm :think. Critiques Pacquiao for having a catchweight fight in the same breath he praises Mayweather for having a catchweight fight that he cheated on the scales. Interesting.
i agree with glenn mc, he cant be judged up with the best because he has never challenged himself the way the best should and have done
Cant stand McGrory. Worse of the lot, even worse than Watt. The guy is a knob. Have you noticed how he always talks over Nelson?
Yeah, he's deluded. But the ones who aren't are the minority. Earnie Shavers said he beat ten Holyfields once. No need to take it too much to heart if you're a fan of both. This is just what these guys do. You've got the typical overmodest "nice guys" with the "Oh, this guy would've given me a war" about any tough kid and then the typical next generation extreme sceptic, old school hardasses that aren't impressed by some star they think wasn't tested like they were, etc.
Obviously we've not seen 'immense bravery' - or a victory snatched from the jaws of defeat - from Floyd because he's been too good. But it'd still be nice to see him come through serious adversity and win, I have to agree with McCrory there. It would tick another box that at the moment is unticked. And for me Floyd failed to adjust against Castillo in their first fight, failed to step it up in a tight fight - and lost IMO.
WTF how has floyd not been tested ? De la hoya was past it when they locked horns and that fight is debatable as is the 1st castillo fight, i agree mayweather is an awesome talent but i do think his legacy is more down to being wise when choosing his opponents, the ortiz fight was a farce, still don't understand that.... just got a flash back of joe cortez's face lol he didn't know what to do.
Wasnt he brave when walked Mosley down just after getting rocked? Gave Castillo an instant rematch? Moved up to fight Cotto? Didnt he break his hand in the Hernandez fight? Came through rough spots against Judah? Got hurt by Corley and came back?
lmao like shane was in his prime, moved up to fight cotto ? miguel moved up himself.... tell me what age hernandez was when they fought, demarcus corley lol The only live opponent i see here is zab judah and i give floyd props for the corrales fight.
My own view is that Floyd always leaves us wanting more. He's not always fought the best opponents available, he hasn't always gone for the knockout etc. That's the difference for me between him and the likes of Leonard, who always tried to get the opponent out of there at the end. TKO 14 Hearns, TKO 15 Benitez, or Pacquaio, with the TKO 10 Morales, TKO 11 Barrera, TKO 12 Cotto. Floyd should have stopped Mosley, and perhaps Oscar. Judah I'll give him a pass for given the low blow, looked like he was wearing Zab down.
I agree with this. For me, Floyd is an ATG, but it's arguable, and a lot of the old time brit forum posters who have way more knowledge than me would agree with McRory. I can see where they're coming from. I rate him as an ATG because he does have some very good wins, and not only that, but you have to look at the manner in which he's won. Most of the time, he's looked good doing so. The problem is he could've done more. He could've fought more often, he could've faced Cotto after Hatton instead of retiring. He could've given Oscar a rematch. He could've faced Margarito and Paul Williams, he could've faced Pacquiao 2 or 3 years ago. Maybe he would've won all these fights but you can't rate a guy because of what you think he would've done. Fact is, this guy could've ended all arguments about him being an ATG if he wanted to. He didn't. His list of opponents is not as good as Pacquiao's or Oscar de La Hoyas. If he had faced the guys DLH faced, would he be unbeaten? IMO no. Do people rate DLH as an ATG or is he just a hall of famer? I don't know. ATG? yeah probably. One of the best fighters of his generation, but when you rank him against all boxers throughout history he wouldn't be anywhere near the top. Doesn't get close to SRL, Duran for example. McRory getting unnecessary stick here. What he said is nothing outrageous. You'd think he'd made a statement like "Tommy Hearns had no power".
