I usually use Lonsdale 18oz gloves for sparring and pad work.

They are the best glove I've used to date but I wondered if I should be getting lighter or heavier gloves.

If heavier gloves promote faster hands then why doesn't everyone use 22oz ones?

Also if I'm sparring in big heavy gloves then that's not going to be like when I fight (I'm not pro) in 14-16oz ones.

Not much of a weight difference I know - does it really matter?

They do everything on the tin just wondering if I should be using something else. 18oz is quite a big glove. I'm quite heavy handed though so the extra protection is welcome and all the hand problems I was having before have stopped (not sure if this is extra padding or glove type though).

Yeh i had the same trouble but found using cleto reyes hand wraps the long ones and learning to wrap properly has stopped all that and the glove iv got have really softened up nicely and feel real comfey. The only thing i would say is there is padding in the thumb which has moved i think. sometimes if i throw a poor shot i can feel the end of my thumb has no cushioning, but thats my own technique more than the glove

Heavier gloves just condition your arms, not make you faster. So 18 oz. is a bit uneccesary unless you're 200+ :p. For sparring I use triumph united japanese heatseekers, great gloves. (I got them for $40 when they were on sale :D)

You don't feel any contact on your knuckles when punching with these gloves (Could be a good or bad thing)

Really? They don't make you faster?

I thought that's one of the reasons you had them? Kind of like sprinters that run with ankle weights etc.

When you take them off you are turbo charged!

I guess it depends on what level you are at and im sure someone more experienced will comment. But for me i focus on all round conditioning, staying active, and going to the boxing gym where they teach me everything i need. My speed and power has improved 10 fold but not by weights or heavy glove but by concentrating on my technique. Starting off slowly.
