Is it always mandatory? Just rewatched Haye vs Chisora and although there was a very half-hearted attempt from both guys, they didn't actually touch. Does it really matter?
i seen guys not touch gloves . i cnt remember off top of my head but i kno i seen it where guys just turn around n dnt touch . an i dont kno this for sure but kno way morales/bararra touched gloves at least one of there fights i bet u they didnt touch up . it also depends of the ref and i cant really remember nething specifically but i kno i seen guys not wanting to touch up but the ref makes so 2 answer ur questions sum refs let it slide others really make sure sporstmanship is performed.
No, but most referee's like for fighters to do it as it's not only something that's been around for hundreds of years, it's to show that there should be no ill feeling between the boxers before the bout, but obviously for some, if you're about to punch the other fighter in the face, it's not easy to touch the other guys gloves.
In the old days when it was bare-knuckle they shook hands, it's just keeping to the tradition to ask both fighters these days to do the same. Some refs still say "shake hands" even though they are gloved up but most just say touch gloves.
I think if they want to touch they should and if they don't well that's their choice. Some refs are too strict practically forcing them to do it.
All I know is that Felix Tito Trinidad had the BEST glove touch (smash) in the business. Refer to Tito vs DLH lol
It's just sportsmanship, I like it. Touch gloves before the first round and in the last (should it last that long), fighters who do it every round......no need at all.
WTF could the ref do before the opening bell deduct a point for not touching gloves Yeah, I see a lot of refs force fighters to touch gloves. They should have the right not to if they dont want.
Its good. I like to watch the art of boxing. Not mindless brawls. Any **** can just show up and throw his fists about. Even if the fighters hate eachother it forces a sophistication upon the fight.
