I'm used to seeing guys spar with 16 and train with 14. I'm looking for a new pair of bag/training gloves myself, was looking at the 14oz Reyes gloves so I can feel the knuckle land better when I turn over the punches correctly. I've heard good things up to now, are they worth it?
Almost everyone does their sparring exclusively with 16. But if you must, 14oz are acceptable at my gym for certain situations. I've tried using the same 14oz on heavy bag and almost hurt my hands several times since I had gotten used to the heavier gloves. 12oz seems counter productive. But, as usual, it might just a new aspect to learn about.
So did I,then when I had my first ever spar it with 16's it felt like I had kettlebells on my wrists.Never thought I would get to spar,so thought 10's were good for conditioning my hands for contact. Totally counter-productive. I don't have the expertise of some of the others here but I'd go for at least 14's if you(TS) have goals beyond bags and pads. You won't regret it.
As do I. I am buying these gloves for training purposes. I already own a pair of 16oz sparring gloves. I'm only light middleweight and cannot envisage myself hitting that hard. Wouldn't 14oz gloves simply be too padded and bulky to teach correct technique? My 16oz gloves, which are only 2oz heavier already seem quite large. I'm not sure what to go for now, 12oz, or 14oz... :think
