I'd make even Kovalev about 50-50 in a shootout.

 

Durelle was absolutely no bum. Look at his balance, form, and positioning on every power shot he throws - hardly any LHW today is half that educated in their approach (maybe Kovalev has shades of it? Durelle had superior technique and solid pop of his own but Kovalev is a bit more explosive and faster)

Crazy that Moore - here near the end of a three-decade career that began in 1935, six years before the US joined WWII - only passed away seventeen years ago, forty years after this fight took place.

Crazier still is that referee Jack Sharkey, whose career started eleven years earlier than Moore's and who is 14 years older, predeceased Moore by only four. He was 55 when he got this officiating assigment, going on to live for another 36.

They don't build 'em like they used to.

 

That was itself practically Moore vs. Durrelle compared with Klitschko's last outing. :yep

 

Speaks highly of the Old Mongoose that he participated in two match-ups you could argue for being the best ever (or even up there)
