Rewatching the fight the first time...the first two rounds...damn, I've seldom seem so much sustained throwing. Crazy slugfest. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IcWDSP6ghwY[/ame]
lol, 1:46..."Theres a new expression in the south called 'krunk' from southern hip-hop music it means HOT...this fighter, fight...figures to be....KRRRRRUNK" ...definitely the worst pre-fight comment i've ever heard from Merchant
Very overlooked fight.... it was a complete punch out lol. Just a TAD one dimensional for my taste but what a scrap for sure.
Pavlik threw 97 punches in the first round. Miranda threw 94 back at him. Pavlik had a simple, but at the time quite audacious, fight plan. "Back him up." And, "he can't fight going backwards." And "He's open to left hooks." Miranda gets a lot of disrespect on ESB these days. At the time he was heavily favored to beat KP. Furthermore, the first time out, he gave Abraham his toughest fight to date.
Absolute barnburner. A little one-sided to be a truly great fight, since Pavlik basically won every round. Miranda was keeping it competitive, though.
its unfortunate for edison, b/c everyone who says he has no chin uses this fight as partial support for that assertion. but he takes multiple huge shots and keeps firing back. it really was a great fight. its basically worth rewatching just to hear larry merchants brief description of the fight before the opening bell
Miranda was a tough fighter a good Brawler! Miranda was never really known for having skill but was not a push over and Pavlik shocked alot of people when he beat Miranda.
I witnessed some of the most brutal connects ever in this fight. The audio on the shots landing by both fighters was sickening. Talk **** all you want about Miranda, but he absorbed tons of punishment and never stops trying, firing back with impunity. The knockdown sequences against the ropes will make even the toughest man's man wince. Miranda took huge shots while slowly sagging to the canvas against the ropes and still kept getting up even when it was obvious he no longer knew where he or his corner was. It was surreal....almost like a knockout sequence in the Fight Night games or one of the many over exaggerated beatdown sequences from the Rocky movies.
Bull****. It was an even money fight with Miranda as the slight favorite. Proof: http://www.fightwriter.com/?q=node/910
I think most forget what an amazing fight that truly was...Miranda was a beast before that ass-whooping!! Miranda was a very hungry and undefeated fighter!!
Hes he did.. He didn't shock me however because I was never sold on Miranda. I always thought he was too crude to beat the best fighters out there... and I basically figured with Pavlik's more refined skill he would eventually pick Miranda apart and take him out around the 8th. Kelly did it one round sooner. Although I didn't expect him to do it the way he did. I figured Pavlik would stay at center ring and hold Miranda steady with his long jab, instead he came straight at Edison right from the bell and imposed his strength all throughout the fight. Kelly is one gutsy SOB.
He is now being crucified for his guts in the ring. He is being judged for moving up in weight and choosing to fight a man who was not a mandatory challenger. I can't wait for the day that Pavlik makes every detractor reconsider their opinions.:good
