Miranda was a 3 to 1 favorite in Vegas. Trust me, the odds were not in my favor. Yes, the fight writer doesnt like Miranda. As a matter of fact he was one of the only North American boxing writers who had Abraham beating Miranda in their first fight.
After 5 rounds two judges had the fight 48-47 Pavlik and one judge had it 48-47 Miranda. So it was an almost even fight (according to the score cards) going into the 6th round.
What was so good about pavlic going life and death with a severely weight drained Miranda who still gave him hell. It wasn't until Pavlic landed a few lucky shots that buzzed miranda and he was never able to recover from.
That is a joke. Miranda "the destroyer" had to back off, he looked befuddled by the fact that some skinny kid was pushing him around. So much for him "throwing that ass on the grill and tanning it" Miranda the joke got smashed to bits. And he lost both Abraham fights, Arthur is on a different level. :smoke
Tremedous fight. It was hard to watch that stinker Taylor-Spinks after that barn burner. Pavlik was always a step ahead but Miranda was competitive.
I'd do not really care what some random web site said. HBO practically did a documentary on Miranda in the pre-fight build up, and then they were like; "Oh ya, some guy named Kelly Pavlik is here too." Hopkins, who never acknowledged his losses to Taylor, publicly stated he would be passing his middleweight mantle on to Miranda! Futhermore, as Pantera 2000 I already pointed out, Vegas odds were 3-1.
The Vegas odds for the fight when he wrote the article were at the top of the page (-180/+140). That's about 1.5-1. Pavlik was a mild underdog, and the hype machine was behind Miranda, but it's not like it was some huge upset like people are making it out to be. Pac over Hoya, for instance, was a much bigger upset (where the odds were about -280/+230).
I never considered KP's win an upset of any kind. I knew Pav would put a beating on Miranda. KP held virtually every advantage except one-punch power. However, that was not most people's perception. For example, when Pavlik told Lampley he would back Miranda up, Lampley had trouble not laughing out loud.
Barnburner!! I had an awesome time watching that. I think I was rooting for Miranda, but I know I liked both fighters at the time. Thanks, now I wanna watch the whole thing in high quality. Gotta find that somewhere...
This is the Kelly Pavlik we all want to remember. An absolute machine. Not the guy we've seen over the past year or so.
Great fight and two great fighters. Pavlik dominated the fight, but was in trouble in round 2. However, he simply can't fight that way against Abraham. If he does, he's done...
