Does anyone think ESPN will pick up any boxing? I think I'm going to be subscribing either way.

Boxing is gone back to the bad old days. Sky are a ****ing joke I think they have a few friday fight nights coming up again. There is **** all world title action and whenever they do show a world title fight you get it on PPV. The next decent fight Doug you might get to watch if your not going to the fight is the Dunne fight which more than likely will be on RTE our BBC in Ireland for non Irish people. They seem to promote the sport of boxing over here unlike in the UK and have a deal with Brian Peters but for how long it lasts is another question.
It makes me sick all the stations in the UK are happy to spend millions of pounds on there Corries , Eastenders and all the other soaps that you cant get off the tv these days. Imagine if they were to cut any of the soaps there would be peoples heads on the chopping block over dropping those programes. I look at Sky and others who have **** all over boxing fans for years with the PPVs yet there is **** all other boxing shown on those stations that you would want to watch with the top fights from the US since Setanta went it is begining to be the start of the death of boxing on tv.

Hate to say it mate but there simply isn't the interest in boxing anymore for TV stations to justify spending money on it. Perhaps if people like Froch weren't so greedy then we could get some more televised action. There's also a wider social issue here, in my opinion, the majority of people prefer to watch inane TV, like soaps and reality shows, because that's what they've been conditioned to think is "cool".

i wonder if its the sports fault rather than the tv companies...taking myself out of the 'boxing fan' shell for a minute..
on the main news on sky news this moring, main news not sports section, it said that roger federer starts the defence of the us open...and it got me, well, not mad but kinda sad...nobody mentioned that a british boxer fought for a world title this weekend...
but then i get thinking is it the state of boxing that has caused this...with more and more giving weight to ibo and the like..and the wba calling up to three boxers in a weight divison a 'world champ'...you must have nearly 100 'world champs' depending on how you count them...so, are the sports editors at newspapers and tv stations thinking 'fighting for a world title, big deal...there's tons of world champs in boxing...lets cover a sport where being champion makes some kind of sense'...i dunno..just i fear that there's going to be less and less boxing available to watch, and we may not see future champions being spoke about like the way benn, eubank, bruno etc was...like when you went down the pub 10 years ago, all the lads would know about big fights and champs, but now a lot of casual sports fans i chat with havent even heard of clinton woods or carl froch...never mind the likes of gavin rees or junior witter...all they know is ricky hatton and of course bernard dunne over here...
i chat to people about irish boxers like andrew murray, where years ago people would be pricking up their ears and getting behind him - nobody i speak to, outside of these boxing forums, knows fook all about him..and he's a great irish prospect...
anyway, i cant make sense of it..i'm reading back and confusing myself, but i know what i mean..i think..

sky sports have always delivered the top level boxing coverage.

they used to miss out on the odd big one here and there (tito-hopkins, jones-ruiz). but in the main they provided a decent service.

but over the last year or two it's dried right up. :-( something like diaz-malignaggi would have definitely been shown a few yrs ago.

there's obviously a reason for this but they ain't telling us.
