Why is that a bad thing? How old are you?

 

I do like Flower of Scotland even though its all about hating England which is pretty pathetic and sad but.....thats sums up Scotland.

 

Flower of Scotland is a great anthem.

 

They'll never change it unless they abolish the monarchy in which case it would make sense. For some unknown reason everyone in England is obsessed with the monarchy being a great thing, even though Charles is unpopular with some the majority still love the royals. I don't sing the national anthem on the basis that I don't believe in the idea of royalty or inherited monarchy, everyone else was belting it out though.

 

Biggest problem with the anthem is they slow it down and drag it out.

The crowd weren't wrong, the song was.

 

the problem was that for some bizarre reason they decided to use two verses before the chorus instead of the customary one verse and then the chorus. Not that it matters a fig, it sounded great anyway. It is a bizzarre rallying song though, probably 90% of the people belting it out couldn't give two ****s about the queen :yep

'Jerusalem' would be my choice everytime

 

Jerusalem is a song about how Jesus once apparently paid a visit to Somerset, although the bible claims he was crucified at a reasonably young age he apparently had time to nip over to the south coast to create a second Jerusalem in the uk. It's also a song that is adopted by conservatives that enjoy the theme of aggressively spreading the Christian message kind of like the crusades. Not sure it's an ideal anthem for Britain givn the current religous tensions !

 

They generate a **** ton of money for the economy is the only reason I am for them.

 

I actually quite like it. I'm early thirties going on early eighties.

 

Of course its part of the anthem, its just never sung anymore, basically because its so offensive to one of the constituent parts of Great Britain. Verse 6 is a belter if you are into that type of thing, which I suspect you are

 

That's one of the myths royalists would have you believe but there have already been studies that suggest we could triple the revenue they produce by abolishing them and opening up the royal palaces to visitors paying entrance fees etc.

It's not the money so much as the idea that one set of people have regal blood and therefore should live in palaces with staff pampering them at tax payers expense whilst children starve and families live in poverty. It's pretty barbaric and embarrassing for a supposedly modern country to entertain such an idea.
