Big props for Stonehands89 for writing a brilliant, exquisitely-worded series, THE GODS OF WAR, about boxing's ten-best ATGs. It's a feast for fight fans: http://www.thesweetscience.com/boxing-author.php?author=135
Thanks for the link. A really good site with good writing, and explores into the history of modern professional boxing.
Just read the 5th God of War..... Stonehands is absolutely correct, Leonard and Dundee have attempted to rewrite history, and to and extent have suceeded in manipulating the media to rewrite what really transpired between Duran and Leonard. Loved the way Stonehands clarified it in the beautifully written piece. I love tidbits that are introduced in a story.....I loved this particular one in the story.... Right before Duran made his climb up to welter, it was said to have been a possibility that Duran and Arguello would matchup against eachother. Duran would even berate Arguello through the press in hopes to anger Arguello into a fight. Just reading that Arguello was in attendance and waving the Panamanian flag no less, brought a smile to my face. ........then remebering back to just this past summer when Duran was photographed at Arguello's funeral with tears in his eyes, just brought chills to my spine. I believe Stonehands insinuated that Duran on that night in Montreal vs Leonard, unleached the demons he had within his soul. Personally, I'm in agreeance. Imo, Duran poured everything of himself that night against Leonard.....and afterward, a content man, his ferocity in the ring was never quite the same.
