Hey guys Due to all the issues in the Super Six regarding fighting outside ones country, I wonder do you guys really think it is a big deal? After all Winky Wright fought in a lot in Europe during his career and won fights, alternatively though we can observe when Hopkins fought Pascal the first time and received a controversial draw. Although I must admit the USA is a prominent location for most major fights. Heres a number of championship fights involving a fighter travelling: Pascal vs Froch, Sturm vs Macklin, Hopkins vs Mercardo, Solis vs Manuel Lopez, Dirrill vs Froch, Dawson vs Pascal, Marquez vs John, Tsyzu vs Hatton, Montiel vs Hasegawa, Bradley vs Witter, Alexander vs Witter, Martinez vs Burns, Tarver vs Green, Klitscho vs Haye, Klitscho vs Ademek. Should a fighter be more willing to go to another country to get a title shot? I just want to hear your opinions guys Thanks again Dipset4Life
Its not strange that they choose not to since many hometown decision happen but I like fighters that fight anyone and travel.
Unless they're American/German based/Japanese (in the smallest divisions) they're going to have to prepare themselves for the high probability of going abroad for title matches. The odd guy who becomes big enough in his own country like Hatton in England and Mundine in Australia can have in their way most of the time but even they have to go overseas occasionally.
It's tough to do but not impossible...Tim Bradley beat Junior Witter in front of a frenzied crowd in the UK...this was when he didn't have a name. You have to go out and really dominate the fight. Can't leave any close rounds to debate because they will always go to the hometown fighter (ie Froch vs Dirrell).
Haye beat Mormeck in France and Valuev in Germany. He also lost to Wlad in Germany. All were title challanges. I think that it says alot about a fighter who travels to win a title, many of the best prospects are engenieered to be world champions before they even have to travel. Normally the ones who travel to fight for titles are not protected either cause they are unexciting, or have an early loss or the Champ is just such a big name and they want to fight him,
Seems UK fighters have no problem winning titles without travelling if they wish it. Hatton, Burns, Froch, Calzaghe and many other won titles at home. Americans have no problem since most great champs make their way over to fight their for the money - except for Germans and Japanese.
