How important do you guys think being teetotal is to be at your full potentiol either in the ring or any other sport you compete in or even just physical goals in general that you may have? Im deciding to go teetotal just because i just kick the arse out of it when i drink! For example i go out on friday afternoon and pretty much dont stop till sunday night. I still manage to train but when i do i just feel mentally drained more so than physically which im sure isnt a good thing. Ive not been a non drinker since i was 17 and im 27 now so im basically just curious what you guys attitude toward alcohol whilst trying to train and even just in general. Do you ever feel that it you cant enjoy social events etc cause thats what i think i will miss the most.
it does make a difference. If im just ticking over then i like to still have a life. I went t-total before a scheduled fight which never materialized :-( It made a massive difference though. Even when im just training normally i find if i go without alcohol and keep well hydrated my performance increases. It only takes one night out on the town. The next day is wasted but not only that i find although i can train the next few days i feel sluggish and tired. Not worth it if your trying to get in great condition.
What I found about drinking and training is that my training goes better when I take it easy on the weekends. Plus, there's a lot of calories in alcohol, so if you're on any kind of diet, that might mess it up. I stopped drinking for about a month, and I noticed that if I'm not having a good time when I'm out, it's most likely because the party is lame, and I drink to kill time. And this is what I wrote about my no drinking experience: http://dndeuce.tumblr.com/post/5149382737/alcohol-musings
i live in a college at uni and its insane. every night theres a group of people drinking (usually the same group haha) but ive found if i drink once a week it doesnt have a huge impact on me. a lot of people here will have a couple of beers after tea whatever but unless im going out i dont touch it
I drink fri-sun and train mon-sat. It has a big effect so im now only drinking on saturdays - and even then im trying to stop completely for a while so i can focus on training. it effects me mon/ tue mostly motivation wise - dragging myself to training, but once im there i get on with it, even if im struggling. i expect to see a big difference fitness wise whilst off it. and hopefully quicker gains too
If you want to to realise your potential then I dont think you can afford to punish you body with alcohol once or more a week, and then have to have it recover, train, and develop immediately after. Remember, you feel like crap after a good night out because you've just poisoned yourself. If its just for fun, then have fun, but your boxing career maybe short for a variety of reasons. The way I looked at it was that I really didn't need to be giving myself any extra disadavantages.
I used to party pretty hard...maybe 15 years ago. When I enlisted in the military I got into running, weight lifting and interested in boxing. While we surely drank in the military, over time...and certainly once I became a father and my professional career started.... I drank less and less. Now I might go months without a single drink and I couldn't even tell you the last time I had more than 2 drinks in a night. When I do get free time I like to run, go to the gym or go out with the prettiest lady I can convince. Drinking has become a garnish in my evenings instead of the main course. I don't even think about it until it comes up in a conversation or in the rare instance I find myself in a bar.
