Hey guys, I have only been to one fight before (ggg vs lemieux) and I really wanted to see Pacquiao before he packs it in... So I booked a hotel and flight (with cancellation insurance just in case) and now I wait. Assuming this goes down as they say - July 20th in Vegas, I am looking for some tips. Tips for buying tickets --any advice as to where to buy/ presales would be gladly welcome. Also, any cool things to do in Vegas leading up to the fight? Any places a boxing fan must go?
Booking a flight before a fight has been announced is presumptuous? I'm not sure about any must-do things in Vegas for a boxing fan, it's not really the boxing mecca it's held out as.
Probably just go to the weigh in and the fight and treat the rest of the trip as a holiday I assume! Chavez Jr was fighting when I was there a few years back. So much stuff going on in Vegas at the time it was just another event, pretty much went unnoticed.
Stay at home, save your money, invite a few idiots over and watch it on the big screen, no annoying loud people that you don't know making noise, getting in your way, spilling beer on you.
Just wandering up the strip and checking out each of the mega casinos is a day or more in itself. They get progressively more ludicrous, although I was disappointed when Luxor scrapped the boat tour because that was the most surreal sight, people playing blackjack and all of a sudden a boat moves by below with a guide talking about ancient egypt. I recommend spending an evening downtown in the 'old' Vegas. Partly as a break from the strip, partly because it's a bit sleazier and has a different vibe. Hope you enjoy the fight and your trip. My first time in Vegas blew my mind, but I've always found it the same when I go back. After 2 or 3 days I want to get away from the sound of slot machines or the sheer insanity of the place. Maybe this is because there's so many amazing places relatively nearby, like Joshua Tree or Grand Canyon. I think Hoover dam is pretty close too if you fancy a day trip.
We actually thought about this in a drunken state in Hamburg for Haye v Klitschko, lots of whores in the area and a big river... I really hope that no whores went missing that weekend now .
