why? Floyd has the more educated body punching between them. pacquiao only wishes he was Mexican and tries to fight like them; Mayweather respects Mexicans
He wouldn't try that with a guy like Thomas Hearns or Mike McCallum who are probably too big for him anyway, but he does counter well.
Yes, feinting, jabbing, turning, changing levels, etc. Or smother him on the inside in spots and get the shot off while holding his offense at bay.
If older Floyd is guilty of one thing, it's showing the stance too early. When he doesn't want to punch, at times he'll just stand there and go into the shell for no reason at all, allowing the opponent to size it up and pick an opening. The younger Floyd only did this when along the ropes. He ate a straight left from Zab doing the same thing, but I'm too lazy to look for it just now.
His defensive priorities encourage shelling up first. Against Ortiz it worked wonders, since Victor was aiming at his shoulder all night. But a feint will make him preemptively tuck into his guard, and a mis-timed roll is the biggest danger of having a low left hand. I have a perfect GIF demonstrating that from the Judah fight but it won't load onto my Photobucket account for some reason. EDIT: Found it online: This content is protected
interesting gif. Things could have worked better for Floyd had he start off in the shell when the first jab was thrown. He could have got the timing down to fire off a right counter but **** happens. Matthysse you mean the guy who had to work hard like a laborer under the summer sun just to stop an obscure fighter from Nigeria?
That's why south/orthodox matche are brutal. To me the best shot isn't the straight hand in such a match up but the hooks. Each guy's jab is flying out on a potential leading hand counter hook. This is why I think Garcia will KO Judah
That gif made me go and watch the first four rounds of that fight again. Zab landed some serious leather early but Floyd appeared much more bothered by Corley's punches than Zab's. I think that maybe Floyd is okay with shelling up because it gives him the opportunity to see punches, even the ones that land on him. He's much more wary of being countered (Corley, Mosley, even Zab with a flash KD), and these are the only times he's been close to going down.
That nigeria guy was avoided like the plague for a reason boxing genius. Matthysse is the best body puncher in the game right now I bet you knew that to :deal
