Holmes was due to fight Carl the truth Williams but Carl pulls out due to a shoulder injury so by the magic of time travel golata steps in. Is this golata day in the sun? Does he take it to the aging champ or does Larry have the answer s to beat him,? Golata of bowe 1 is coming through the time tunnel, how's it go??
Golota might look good for a handful of rounds against this version of Holmes. But no doubt Golota finds a way out when Holmes is still firing that jab in his face.
Hi big guy. Yer that's why I put that version of Holmes in there. He was reaching the end of his reign and struggling with challenges. Spinks was loomin. Golata in the bowe fight showed such a good jab, right hand and took some hefty wallops so would have been I think a hard challenge for that holmes. Of course Larry still had the great jab and pride so he wouldn't be looking for a easy way out. I envisage a tough demanding ft for both men.
Golota would give him a beating like never before, but the problem is holmes like bowe is one of the toughest hw champs and would keep on fighting back which would make golota fall apart
Yeah too many variables. Does Golata fight dirty? Does Holmes show up motivated and on fire the way he did in the Spinks rematch or does he show up complacent as he did in the first fight and the Williams bout ? If things go rough for Andrew does he gut it out or Quit? Could Holmes still take Golata's hard shots to the head and body at that stage in his life ? I would like to be able to favor Holmes with confidence but he was becoming a tad too unreliable by 1985. Certainly not a good year to place any bets on him.
Holmes still had that jab and that punch alone is enough to beat and stop Golata. Holmes wins via TKO in nine rounds in a one sided fight.
By that point he couldn't even beat David Bey inside of 9 rounds or in one sided fashion and was arguably gifted against a 16 fight Truth.. how in the hell is he going to do it against the man who thrashed Riddick Bowe from pillar to post ?
No way is this a one sided win for Larry. Not at that point in time. Golata was fresh then and put on two great fight s against bowe. I did say that holmes would probably win but in a very tough fight.
Agreed. In 1985 Holmes lost to a light heavyweight making his heavy debut and struggled with two relatively unknown prospects each having less than 17 fights. I don't see any reasonable argument harboring that he'd have an easy time with Andrew Golata.
Holmes would suffer the beating of his life in this fight, but he was one tough sob who had a heart of a lion... He would fight back all night long, though it wouldn't surprise me if golota stops him with some of his sneaky short combos.. Some of golota punches bowe ate were devastating
Golata beat exactly who at a Larry Holmes level? Answer is NOBODY. Holmes would not miss that jab all night.
Yes u could say who had golata beat at that point but u have to ask, who had Michael spinks beat at heavy before he beat holmes?
