Golata 96 vs holmes 85?

Spinks was a different fighter obviously. Much harder to hit and mobile. Golata would be an open target for the Holmes jab. Holmes does not lose nor has a bad night to an opponent where he dominates with his jab.

 

Ponderous fighters never gave Holmes a tough fight. Too slow and he had no defense for that jab.

 

That 1985 Holmes wasn't all that quick or difficult to hit himself anymore either. And Golata had a fairly good jab with loads of power behind it himself. Its not unreasonable to think that Larry could have still pulled it off, but your earlier claim about him dominating Golata and stopping him in 9 rounds in a one sided fight doesn't seem realistic. Holmes wasn't doing that to ANY opponent anymore by that point.

 

Was 85 Holmes better than Bowe of 96?

Who would win out of them two?

 

Close fight really, that version of Holmes was not too impressive.

But does it matter? I rather like to compare prime version of fighters in mythical matchups.

I think prime golota has too much for this version of holmes... Golota would give him fits with his own jab, had a good right hand, a punch holmes was suspicious to, was much bigger and stronger which would make things tough for holmes on the inside... I think Golota would beat him up on the inside, holmes does not have infighting skills like bowe nor does he punch hard enough to shatter golota's confidence

 

Another vote for Golata. Holmes was ready to be taken for awhile by the time of this fight. And Andrew had more thatn the 15 fight maximum most opponents had at their disposal. How many folks had bothered watching Williams prior to the Holmes fight anyway? I did and it was not easy to follow him because he was barely a blip on the radar screen in 84 and 85. He was looked at as another soft touch fight when a bunch of other better fighters were available. And nobody was expecting Williams to do much but lose and it was a matter of how long he would last.

Also remember after their contested bout, what happened to Williams in his next fight when people bought into him as the uncrowned champ or 2nd best out there? Or if you look at Larry and his next fight, he lost to Spinks. But Spinks himself was moving up in weight and looked bad in that Davis fight lots of folks thought he lost. So both Holmes & Spinks recent performance was B grade or lower. Beatable fighters all and nobody with A+ performances in their most recent form. More like new icing on a 2 week old cake. Lots of folks just look at the icing though.

So the Williams that gave him that tough of a fight was not perceived as much more than Scott Frank or David Bey or Ledoux going into their fights with Larry. Big big underdogs. Similar to what's going on right now with the Wilder selection of opponents. That was the Williams report card.

With that in mind, a fresh Golata has the size and abilities to give Holmes at least as tough of a night's work as Williams. Or, I tend to think more because of his varied attack. And bodywork which is not helping an old champ like Holmes 1 iota. I think Andrew could pull out the W here in a decision bout. And Golata being Golata, would be fortunate to make a grand total of 1 title defense if he did beat Larry.

 

bowe one of the toughest hw champs ? lmao golota gave bowe a complete beating and i suspect that any version of bowe would struggle with golota.on the other hand a young foreman destroys golota very early.
bowe won the third fight with holyfield because evander was sick of the heart and he did not have the stamina at that moment to finish him, bowe did nothing in history except beating holyfield a guy who was naturally much smaller and he had stylistical advantage over him. he looked complete trash against golota when he was only 28 and lewis knocked golota the **** out in a single round lmao, bowe got dropped like a pathetic pig fat and he looked fat and soft when he weighed 245 pounds .Even a shot Tyson looked great vs Golota compared with bowe.
He left his belt because he was scared to death to face lewis, a coward with all the letters.

bowe was bigger than foreman which is not something to talk about considering foreman weigh in only around 220 lbs... he was big compared to midgets like frazier, small compared to shw like bowe, lewis, fury etc...

 

Golata never beat anyone that was good. He is not beating Holmes. No chance. Golata never proved he could stay with a fighter of Larry's pedigree. Holmes beats him up and stops him. One sided fight.
