Gold Coast Convention Centre, Broadbeach, Queensland, Australia This content is protected Les Sherrington v Rubin Williams - 12 Rounds Bob Mirovic v Alex Leapai - 12 Rounds John Szigeti v Raymond Lucas - 6 Rounds Matt Burns v Mark Pawsey - 6 x 2 mins Ryan Langham v Rey Anton Olarte - 4 rounds Josh King v Alex Ahtong - 4 rounds. --------------------------------- I saw Williams on Saturday. He has turned up in tremendous shape. He was about 175lbs, so right on target. He said he's been sparring with Arthur Abraham, Andre Dirrell and Ronald Hearns in preparation for the fight. He also stated that he knows this is his last run at success. He told me that he has received no more than 3 weeks notice for his last 6 fights. He's had 10 for this one and it should be a great one while it lasts. We all know what you get with Sherro. He turns up in great shape, all the time. It's a classic crossroads match. My sources tell me that Bob Mirovic has absolutely trained the house down for this one. Apparently he's weighing 117kg already. If this is the case, he's on track to be his lightest since 2003. Word is that he's sparred 208 rounds with Solomon Haumono and Pat Kennedy in preparation. I've got no doubts that Noel Thornberry has Alex fit and motivated. There's been talk recently of Leapai getting fights in Germany. He needs to get past Bob to do that. Good competitive undercard as well. I'm looking forward to seeing Ray Lucas again. He has a huge ticker and has won some fights in the past on that alone. Burns and Pawsey could go either way, Langham makes his return and King and Ahtong kick things off over 4 in a rematch.
Aussie Bob will have to pull out the fight of his life on Thursday. Would love to see him get past Leapai..... just can't see it happening if Alex is tuned in. There might be a very hansome carrot dangling for the winner.
good thread ippy, thanks for the inside info :good les $1.40 rubin $3.00 alex $1.20 bob $4.00 for bob being 44, 2 fights in 3 years isnt an ideal prep. i think alex KOs him badly rubin is on a run of 6 straight loses, but in that he has fought , Echols, Ward, A Green and Chris Henry . whos picking who ?
Rubin has come in from $4, so obviously people think there's value there. Les started at $1.20 and has drifted slightly. If there's an unders/overs offered on Leapai v Mirovic, I'll be taking overs. I don't see him getting him out of there to be honest.
Last fight Mirovic had with Hopoate was a hug fest, it would be good to see Alex dominate the fight and take a step forward in boxing Australia.
Nice write up Ippy. Thursday night should be great. Good to see an American come down under in Williams. His fight with Lacy was great while it lasted. Will be interesting to see how Big Bob turns up with that much training under his belt. Hopefully the card lives up to the expectations.
Looking forward to this show. Some good matchups and hopefully a fit Bob will turn up and put up a big showing. Still can't make up my mind about Leapai though, maybe need to see more of him. Also a real good test for Sherrington.
i msg bob on facebook he replied he's ready to go and looking for a KO he feels he can stop alex in early rounds, big bob is ready and great confidence from him:good Les by UD Bob KO early rounds
Nice card some decent fights. We (Clarence Tillman) were supposed to be there fighting Jhon Szigeti, shame they pulled the pin on it last week so they could bring in a small heavy who hasnt fought in 5 years or more!! Tillman would have knocked Szigeti out!
