You mean if he wasn't such a fat **** a man who has lost six on the bounce over a period of 30 months would be fighting for a "title" ...What the **** is all that about ? :-(
Are you on the coast Jeff? I got a strange text saying Alex was a no show at the weigh in :huh Must be wrong....can anybody expand on this?
Its for the WBF world title. Also for the PABA title which Sherrington holds. As the American was over the limit he cant win the title. The guy with him is not a trainer. Just came for the trip. I hope the American puts on a good performance. Its a big ask bringing guys from the states.
Bob weighed in at 120kg. Alex tomorrow. As he's a Heavyweight, there's no real need for him to attend. Ray Lucas 94kg. John Szigeti 104kg. Matt Burns 77kg, Dan Pawsey 79kg. Langham a touch under, Olarte a touch over. King and Ahtong both under.
Flash, This is an example of what we spoke about earlier today: Here's a guy whose recent form is 6 losses & a draw from his last 7 fights fighting for a world title! (okay they've been against good opposition but the losses were 3 by stoppage and 3 by UDs). The guy's 34. He's come half way around the world for a 'world' title fight without a trainer, and he can't even make weight! Hope it's a good fight for Sherro. But it's getting hard to get excited about some recent 'world' title fights.
I reckon there might be a bit of fight left in Bob. Might pull out an upset if he can keep up with alex after 6 rounds...although, on reflection, it could be that I'm tipping with my heart and not my head
Not even Les I'm sure, would claim it's a real world title. It's a belt that provides opportunities. The real story is that Les is ranked 15th by the WBA and 9th by the IBF. It's his biggest hit out so far and he needs to beat these caliber of fighters before he can progress further. It is however against a guy who's fought the who's who of Super Middle and Lt Heavy. Off the top of my scone - Epifanio Mendoza, Lacy, Tony Menefee, Anthony Stephens, Echols, Andre Ward, Allan Green etc. Yep, Williams has lost 6 and drawn 1 of his last 7. It has however been against opposition with a combined record of 126-8-2. As Rubin said to me on Saturday, "He doesn't bring nothing that I haven't seen before".
I spoke to the guy with him just after Williams weighed the first time. They panicked. They were told to contact me and see if I could help them make the weight. I do not know why they would think that. I think he will go ok. He sounds like he has come to win.
