paul berlenbach= won golkd wrestling medal in 1920 Antwerp Olympics. Won boxing light heavy title from Mike McTigue in 1925..
A great guess, but Berlenbach is not the guy I am thinking of. And, did he win a gold medal at the 1920 Olympics? I checked the on-line records and his name did not appear, but he was the 1920 AAU champion in wrestling. The fellow I am thinking of is a well known boxer but was never a pro champion. He won an Olympic gold medal in a different sport.
Berlenbach did win gold in wrestling or was that myth? So I suppose, Ali, Foreman, DLH ete are out lol.
I might be wrong, but I looked up the on-line records for all freestyle and Graeco-Roman wrestling medals for the 1920 and 1924 Olympics and did not see Berlenbach's name.
Dan Hodges won a medal in wrestling in the olympics in 1932. Hodges then became a pro heavyweight boxer...
Danny Hodges. Interesting, but the not the guy I'm thinking of. Hodges was a fair boxer. My fellow was one of the most important men in boxing for decades.
Not the fellow I'm thinking of. Clue--the fellow I'm thinking of won a gold in boxing, and also won a gold in another sport. This should make it pretty easy, as there aren't many who have won Olympic gold medals in more than one sport.
Henry and Bummy That is right. Eddie Eagan won a gold medal in the lightheavyweight division in 1920, and won a gold medal in bobsledding in 1932. He is the only man to win gold medals in both the summer and winter Olympics. He was educated in the law at both Harvard and Oxford. Quite an impressive fellow. Later, of course, he was the longtime Chairman of the New York State Athletic Commission.
