Gold Medallists on their resume? Or who beat the most, to put it another way. Ali beat Foreman and Frazier. And Spink's.
I'm sure I read in Ali's Life and Times that Ali thought Spinks having a gold medal would make the fight more appealing to the public (since Spinks being a novice as a pro wasn't thought of as much of a threat) because no-one had ever beaten 4 gold medalists before. I'm sure no-one has done it since either.
I think Patterson won one Olympic gold, as did Foreman, Frazier and Spinks. If Stephenson had've turned pro and fought him, Ali could have notched up 5 gold medalists with a total 7 x gold medals between!
Hearns did fight many medalist, just not gold. He fought Davis as an amatuer- then as a professional he fought Leonard from 1976,, James Shuler was going to be on the team in 1980. Virgil Hill was the Bronze medalist in 1984, and he fought Andrew Maynard from the 1988 team. Why I mentioned all this I am not sure.
Was Zbignahjbdkdjwfw Pietrikowski an Olympic Gold Medalist in '56 ??? If so, that would qualify Ali as claiming another scalp...
As much as I loathe to interrupt yet another Ali love-in (just a few posts in some are already talking of an amateur win and even if another turned pro!!! :huh). George Chuvalo fought: Big George Smokin' Joe Clay Floyd and Pete Rademacher. Total: 5 Evander Holyfield fought at four gold medallists too (and a fair few silver): Lewis Mercer Tillman Foreman
'Anal Sex With Conteh'... its a question relating to a boxer amassing the most contests against an Olympic Gold Medalist boxer.. Why is that such a quandry?? And why is it an Ali love-fest??
I know. The answer isn't Ali, so stop trying to talk about 'ifs'. Peitrysowski's wasn't a gold medallist either and the question doesn't concen amateur career in my opinion, otherwise someone like Francesco Damiani could even be the answer. It isn't. Like i've said, Chuvalo has more. End of Ali's inclusion in this thread methinks. :hi: Instead of trying to find the answer, some of you boneheads decide to talk of "ifs and buts". Yeah, if John Tate wouldn't have been twatted by Stevenson and the fight with Ali in 1980 that was mooted would have come of then it'd be one more gold medallist. Right, I'm off to the fair. :good
