Who cares!?!? It really IS a big deal! GBP has almost every HBO date for the next 3 years bought! So we will see their stable showcased more- the fighters people see are the fighters people know- so it drives the sport at the public level. It is a very BIG deal which promoter is on top because they will continue to be the face of the sport that you are a fan of (as seen by you posting in excess of 1000 times on a site geared towards it).
Top Rank secured 2 important boxing dates this year, May 7 (Cinco de Mayo) and September 17 (Mexican Independence Day). I think GBP can't come up with a competitive fight card for those dates.
Yes, but what about in the future? Pac has a few years left in him and same with Cotto and Marg. Also Donaire is trying to leave them for GP
I don't have a clue why people take that site seriously. At least when I suck up to Pascal I don't try to do it with a hidden agenda.
Both promotional companies regularly offend me with their audacious and patronizing fight cards; thus, I harbor equal contempt for both promoters. That said, GB has indeed done a better job of developing and acquiring potential crossover stars. Tho' TR has done well with JuanMa - and guys like Gamboa, Donaire, and Rios are seemingly developing into respectable draws.
Top Rank does a wonderful job developing fighters, they have good matchmakers, etc... The problem is when their fighters develop into stars, the fighters' contracts are so much in the favor of TR, that the fighter eventually becomes bitter and leaves for greener pasture.
The article is right.. GBP has Khan, Ortiz, Canelo, Haye, Guerrero and Mares... plus if they put good fights like Ortiz- Maidana 2 or Maidana- Katsidis- or JMM-Judah or Khan-Bradley, or Canelo- Angulo.. we the fans are getting good boxing... arum gives us Manny vs Mosley.. let's be real... Arum is not great for boxing.. in fact, he's the cancer to the actual sport.. good for business but horrible for the sport... COLD HARD TRUTH
But if Oscar left them and so did Mayweather and now Donaire wants to... could it be that Arum is actually doing something shady:huh:huh:huh that these fighters dont like?
Golden Boys status is based on their bull**** HBO deal. They've been able to sign guys by promising them HBO dates, something no one else could do. Top Rank has actually made stars unlike Golden Boy who has shitty matchmakers. Arum is sleazy as **** but hes been in the business forever and knows how to make stars. Its bad for boxing when guys leave their promoter for Golden Boy, it makes promoters less likely to spend money developing fighters when they're not gonna see the eventual payoff.
