"We are still discussing things but we have almost finalized it," said Schaefer, who heads De La Hoya's promotional company. "I think an announcement will be forthcoming."

Schaefer said the fight would be Sept. 13 or Sept. 20 on HBO pay-per-view. He said the site for Mayweather-De La Hoya II has not been settled but he is holding the September dates at the 27,000-seat Home Depot Center, the outdoor home to the Los Angeles Galaxy of Major League Soccer. He said other venues are also interested, including the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

A source also told ESPN.com Wednesday night that Dodger Stadium was interested in hosting the fight after L.A. native De La Hoya suggested he'd like to fight there before retiring.

Dammit. I wonder what the weight and all the other stipulations would be from DLH

I wonder why so late in the year. I assume DLH has a tentative date scheduled the weekend of 5/5, why not then? Plus it would give Cotto a chance to fight once or twice, then have the winner (Floyd) meet him in September. Did I miss something? Neither Oscar nor Floyd is trying to fight before that, are they?

I think this is the only fight either guy will have this year. Don't know about floyd but oscar is out of training time for a fight in may. I suppose he can train in several months but after so much time off he needs at least a five month training to be able to beat an elite. IT LOOKS LIKE 2008 WILL BE ALL COTTO!!!

Mayweather-DLH ll? What a useless piece of crap fight. I'd like to see Floyd against Cotto or Williams. The only good thing about a douche bag like Floyd being such a great fighter is seeing him perform his magic against the toughest guys out there. But no, instead prima donna De La Hoya gets the fight and we all know what will happen. Weeks and weeks of 24/7, talk, talk, talk, Floyd acting like a primitive third world ignoramus, and then a boring fight with Oscar concerned more with protecting his face , and Floyd only doing enough to win. Floyd is becoming the second coming of Roy Jones. Lots of posing, posturing, and bragging, then shamelessly cherry picking opponents. It sucks.

    :good

Oscar better take a tune-up fight - cause this will be one of his longest layoffs - of over a year out of the ring. This won't work in his favor - I don't care if he does have Mayweather Sr. back. Sr. would be one of the first to tell him that he needs a tune-up, before jumping back in the ring with his son.

So Floyd gets to keep his P4P status and perfect record for an extra 3 months now. Good for him.

man this is some bull ****. these 2 arent even gonna really fight. this is a matter of floyd and oscar coming together and saying "lets go in there, u win 8 rounds, i win 4. we go home and we hold hands to the bank together to deposit our multi million dollar checks". i really dont see anything positive for the sport of boxing if these 2 clowns fight again. if any1 does, plz xplain ...

Agree with everything except floyd being a douche bag and primitve third world ignoramous.

As for Dela he neeeds to become a full time promoter and give us a real fight card instead of the garbage he's been providing.

DeLa needs to permanently retire, he is no longer fighter I or other real fight fans want to see. All he is is a media attraction now for the fringe fight fans to root for b/c he is the original pretty boy, speaks with a soft voice and is the most non-threatening fighter to ever live. He does'nt even rank in my top 20 PFP fighters of the last 15 yrs.

If I never see he, Holy, Roy, Tito or Tyson again I will be a happy fight fan.

DAMN SHAME IF THEY MAKE THIS FIGHT!

But they can still save the day.

Make a May 3 doubleheader at least with 2 lesser fights: De La Hoya - Hatton/Judah, Mayweather - Mosley. Or one big risky: DLH/Mayweather Cotto. But for God's sake not this f.kin' rematch in SEPTEMBER! That means NO OTHER FIGHT for BOTH for 2008 and I think for good.

    THIS IS TRULY OUTRAGEOUS!

    We sould boycott this somehow!
