I agree with you. There should be one champion per division. Bull**** paper champions **** me off. I suppose it is all about marketing, people become more interested in fights if someone is putting on a belt at the end. It is silly but it's true. So while I don't like all these titles, I can see why they are there.

This stinks of bull to be honest.

Why put "thou shalt not fight Khan" in a contract?

The fight would only happen if a contract was signed to make it happen. Both are GBP, so it would be up to GBP to sort out the contracts. So the same outcome can be acheived by not putting that clause in. No chance.

If the intention is to put Maidana on HBO a couple of times before he fights Khan then that would make sense. Build him up and get a payday.

Alot of people/fighters/promoters are hating on Khan because GBP signed him and trying to get good names in the U.S as steping stones for King Khan, get ready give Khan 1 year and he will be a big big star over there.

You're missing the poin though. Previously, if GBP had refused to sign a contract for the fight, Khan would have been forced to vacate his title. Now he gets to keep it without facing his mandatory for up to a year.

Building up a fight for a year or more by having fighters appear on the same card etc is good business ... but since when could you do this with a mandatory challenger? You either face them or give up your title.

This whole thing with Khan is taking away any ouce of "fan" that was still left in me. Amir is a world champ. He shouldn't be protected anymore unless there is something Roach is hiding from us.

Ortiz should have won that fight too. What's happening is people are making stars out of these young guys and it goes to their heads. Ortiz should have been able to keep a cool head and win that fight not throw all his skills out the window and turn into a slugger.

because they think khan's the next big thing, but they know he'd get ktfo by maidana. not only that, if they could have kept this whole contract thing a secret (not saying it's true, but it sounds perfectly logical knowing the idiots behind it), they avoid khan having to vacate to avoid that kind of a fight. that way, he doesn't look like a runner and his rep doesn't get tarnished.

Where do they get this 5 million pounds figure from as Khan's earning for the Marquez fight?

Khan is an unknown in the US, does anyone know how much each fighter made in the Marquez Vs Diaz bout?
