Round 1

Figueroa also appears to be a little more than 2" taller. He jabs and retracts, holding his left forearm swinging out in front of himself ready to catch anything Molina throws at him. Molina keeps darting forth with right hands to the sternum. Figueroa ducks forward into a low 1-2. Figueroa throws a ponderous overhand right and is countered by a couple of short shots from Molina. Another good shot lands as Figueroa is backing out. Molina starts sliding his lead foot to the left as Figueroa circles and tries to turn into him with a hook. Figueroa ducks into a right hand. Molina lands another sharp one when Figueroa straightens up. They trade punches and Molina lands better, Figueroa folds himself up and then stretches out in retreat.

Guest commentator Paulie Malignaggi just announced that he will soon be making his welterweight debut on the Pascal-Hopkins undercard, and that it's a permanent move.

 

Round 2

Figueroa lobs long jabs and right hand leads that Molina is able to step through, with Carlos blasting away once he gets inside. Figueroa wobbles after one such surge, unable to backpedal faster than Molina can reach up and whack him. Figueroa escapes but is badly hurt again just before the bell, with his knees dipping and his hands almost touching the canvas.

Round 3

Molina is walking right through all of Figueroa's back-off punches, literally absorbing them on his chest with his hands down and trying to walk Figueroa down to land a hook, very composed and selective and headhunting with sharp power punches. Molina jabs and covers up when Figueroa tries to counter him, then holds Figueroa in place when the taller man predictably falls in against him. Molina tries to get another volley going on the inside but Figueroa gets out. Molina's jab sails past Figueroa's and is coiled by his chin again before Figueroa has even finished throwing his. Big 1-2 from Molina. Figueroa wobbles away but manages to stay upright. Figueroa punches out of a clinch with a slapping right hand to the temple.

30-27 Molina

 

Round 4

Figueroa is less eager to throw now, limiting himself to a 1-2 every fifteen to twenty seconds or so and already pulling out before he's extended the right hand all the way. Molina has let up on the gas pedal a bit, so Figueroa wades in and tries a few body punches. Molina is just shoring up his energy this round, throwing very few shots but landing most of them. He rocks Figueroa with a stiff jab. Figueroa keeps getting countered hard with single blows when he deigns to let his hands go.

40-36 Molina

 

Round 5

Figueroa tries to find Molina sleepwalking with a right hand followed up by a pendulous flurry but Molina is quick enough to shimmy out of danger. (and/or Figueroa is slow enough to let him.) Molina keeps walking into him, throwing short arm punches at about 80% that are still enough to catch Figueroa and bobble his head. Figueroa leans against him and tries to tap anywhere he can on Molina's body. Molina is unperturbed, pushing off to throw short left hooks and chopping overhand rights.

50-45 Carlos Molina

 

Round 6

Figueroa is continually falling in and leading with his slow 1-2, and inevitably getting countered by stiff jabs and straight rights from Molina. They wind up against the ropes (Figueroa's back to them) and Molina sets up shop, grinding away at the body. Figueroa tries to slip punches once they get back out to open water and thread some jabs in. He successfully slips but none of his jabs get through cleanly. Molina is just anticipating him and stepping right through to attack. Molina finishes each combo by exiting at an angle and resetting, taking no chances of getting hit blind with anything and not looking to finish Figueroa off.

60-54 Molina

 

Round 7

Figueroa jabs from long range, and Molina blocks. Figueroa is no longer falling in. Molina keeps cutting the ring off but isn't looking to go after his quarry too aggressively. Figueroa is committed to long jabs and evasive maneuvers. Molina waits until he outsteps Figueroa and gets close and pops him with right hands, then tries to open up when Figueroa reacts to them. Figueroa is always able to stumble his way out of the woods, but is routinely getting his head rocked. Figueroa stops on a dime and steps forward with a 1-2 and Molina bats it away with ease. Molina starts to peck away with body shots at the round's end.
