    Round 8

The two stand in the center of the ring and take turns at bodypunching. Figueroa pulls out and starts trying to put together long but slow combos from mid-range. Molina jumps in and gets in Figueroa's chest and blasts him with quick shots. Figueroa lands a lead right hand counter from a crouch on the outside, his best punch all night. Molina then lands a vicious right of his own but Figueroa stands up to it well. Figueroa is really swinging now, picking up a bit of velocity just by the sheer force and his own momentum. Molina is still dodging most of his shots while landing his own. Big left hook from Molina and Figueroa is sitting on the middle rope, but the bell rings.

    80-72 Carlos Molina

    The dream has been achieved!!!

Carlos Molina is now a DeWalt Power Tools Champion!!!!

All the judges found a round to score against him. Weird. He didn't even come close to losing a minute...unless they were frowning on his inactivity at some point.

Manuel Avila and Alexis Hernandez both make their debuts at featherweight in a swing bout scheduled for 4.

Hernandez is a replacement for once-beaten Salvador Cifuentes.

    Round 1

Avila turns and jabs while Hernandez jumps around him, ducking and throwing weird low looping right hands that are almost like hooks thrown with the wrong (rear) hand. Avila is countering him at will, and looks to have very good reflexes and ring smarts for a boxer in his debut. Avila hurts him but Hernandez hops away and continues to circle close. Avila lands a nice upjab and casually flings a 1-2 in the face of Hernandez.

    10-9 Avila

    Round 2

Avila is moving his feet more in this round, sweeping around Hernandez in wide fast arcs. Hernandez nearly trips over himself trying to swing at Avila in transit. Avila lures him to the ropes and slips some straight punches off the front-foot, then sidles up next to him and calmly counters him from the flank. Hernandez chases and jumps, wiping blood from his nose with the palm of his glove. Avila holds him off with some nice jabs and dances circles around him.

    20-18 Avila

everyone in that chat was saying how Molina would wreck Brandon Rios because he beat him in the amateurs... seen both guys a few times, and in the pros, Rios beats him

    Round 3

Hernandez lets his hands fly, slapping with several punches and actually getting Avila to back straight into the ropes. Hernandez gets an overhand right through and keeps on punching. Avila decides to disengage from the sloppy whirlwind and starts to plunk jabs on that swollen and bloody nose with effortlessly well-executed jabs. He's definitely a natural, athletically. Right hand body punch by Avila, then he lands a quick straight combo to the face and Hernandez smiles through it. Hernandez walks forward and wings punches while Avila easily evades with backward and lateral steps and counters him with jabs and flurries.

    30-27 Avila

    Round 4

Avila keeps flicking out fast combos to the face. Hernandez keeps firing back and lands an incidental left hook that surprises but doesn't stop Avila. Hernandez is backed to the ropes but doesn't cease fighting back. Avila leans on him and tries to really leverage up with some hard shots, including a straight right hand under the rib cage delivered after leaning back. Hernandez slides his gloves along the sides of Avila's head in attempts to push him off so he can get room to get some of his own punches off. Avila smashes him in the face with a hard right hand. Hernandez has a face full of raw hamburger. :barf Avila realizes he's not getting the stoppage and jabs Hernandez up a bit more.

    40-36 Avila

Avila won a UD, and the Fight Night Club broadcast on FSN is over.

Stream viewers get a bonus, though - non-commentated action!

Light welterweights Ramon Valadez and Ramon Flores are set to do battle.

    Round 1

Valadez plays possum, then explodes with a lunging 1-2 that backs Flores up hurriedly. The pattern repeats a few times, with Flores getting a bit too close and getting chased away. Flores starts rumbling to the body during his visits to the inside. Flores misses a big overhand right. Valadez narrowly misses a huge uppercut while Valadez is still regaining his balance from his own miss. Valadez bashes him into a corner but is swatted out. Jab to the body by Valadez. Flores looks at his corner as they posture and simply waits for the bell.

    10-9 Valadez

    Round 2

Valadez slices the air with right hands and up-hooks. Flores makes his way inside with extreme caution, turning his body side to side and keeping his guard firm and high. Flores is a bit more rigid. Valadez lands well when he opens up but keeps letting Flores off the hook and then not doing much for a while afterward. Flores is the one coming forward but hasn't landed much of note. They clinch and Flores again takes an extended look at his corner. Valadez chases Flores off with a sequence of hard punches that all narrowly miss.

    20-18 Valadez

    Round 3

Valadez leads with an up-hook and then shies away from a Flores flurry. Flores is now leaning over and jabbing to the body while Valadez skirts the outside. Valadez is really intent on landing that up-hook but isn't getting a really great angle on it and isn't close enough even if he was turning into it properly. Flores lands a reaching left hook to the body and keeps coming forward poking and sweeping with weaker shots than the few delivered by Valadez but is outworking him and pushing the pace (somewhat). Valadez tries lifting off his feet and leaping forward with the up-hook and it lands under the arm of Flores. Valadez now turns a more conventional hook over into the chest of Flores. Valadez blocks a jab and then drops his hands as he bounces on his toes, and is mouth-breathing. The two trade left hooks to the jaw at the bell.

    10-9 Flores

    29-28 Valadez

    Round 4

Valadez is on the attack now, leading with rights to the body and following with hooks. The referee interrupts them to check something out - a slippery spot on the canvas? - and when they resume the aggressor is now Flores again. Valadez bends at the waist and avoids some punches, snapping back from one swoon with a hard counter right. More good combos to the body by Valadez. The up-hook lands for him when Flores comes straight at him with low hands. Flores is following but not intelligently. Flores feints with a 1-2 and then lands a hard right hand by itself. Valadez keeps dodging and moving. They trade before the bell, with Flores wildly slapping and missing and Valadez sneaking a few short counters in.

    39-37 Valadez on my card.

Local boy Ramon Valadez does indeed win a UD, to the delight of his extremely vocal Angeleno cheering section (which sounds like it includes at least one very young woman).

He improves to 4-1 (1) while Flores falls to 3-9-1 in a hard-luck career that's seen him matched with many undefeated prospects (including his debut, a first round loss to Brandon Rios).
