Ortiz is being interviewed now. He says he had convinced himself that if it had gone the distance Berto would have had shutout scorecards filled out ahead of time to provide the incentive to fight as he did.

He also says he was cold against Maidana and never got a chance to get going. :think Not sure I buy that.

 

Bonus walkout bout - Alfonso Blanco vs. Juan Carlos Diaz

4 rounds @ light middleweight

 

Round 1

Damn, this height differential is crazy. Blanco is listed at six feet but might even be an inch more. Diaz looks every bit the 5'8" he is supposed to be.

Blanco is the aggressor, jabbing long and strong. Diaz survives a hairy moment against the ropes, getting sniped with those long right hands of Blanco. Diaz lures him around the ring and is DROPPED HARD in a corner! Diaz gets up and shakes it off, but is forced to put up a turtle shell as Blanco comes forward slamming him with good straight shots. Blanco uses his reach very well. Diaz is forced to lean back into the ropes and grab them to hold himself up from the sheer force of Blanco's blows. Diaz just focuses on protecting his face. Blanco throws uppercuts from long range, banging Diaz and forcing him to retreat sidelong across the ropes.

10-8 Blanco

 

Round 2

Blanco immediately pins Diaz back to the ropes with his hard jab, and starts mixing it up with hooks and uppercuts. Diaz is guarding exclusively, but taking a lot of leather on the sides and top of the head and shoulders. Blanco is using his forearms to push Diaz into range and then letting his hands go. Blanco measuring with his jab and looking to slam Diaz with a big right cross while leaning against the ropes. Diaz is in survival mode - but can't avoid getting dropped again by Blanco's raw power. Blanco measures him with his jab and then unloads with a fast combination of about 9 unanswered punches. Diaz throws a loping overhand right, very easy to avoid for Blanco. Diaz takes more punishment against the ropes but escapes the round.

10-8, 20-16 Blanco

 

Round 3

Blanco is allowing Diaz to mount some offense now, and easily slipping his wild overhand shots with minimal leaning and rolling. Diaz is really gunning hard, though - seizing his chance but unable to do anything with it. Blanco starts smashing his face with his 1-2 and driving him back to the ropes. Diaz boxes his ears while leaned in close and continues to throw short stuff at him from around the side. Blanco seems completely undisturbed, and just casually leans back to start thumping Diaz on the nose with his jab again. Blanco walks in on Diaz while staying tall, and slips punches with quick pull-backs in between blasting him.

30-25 Blanco

 

As an amateur, Blanco beat James DeGale and lost to Matt Korobov...and went 1-1 with the late touted Irishman Darren Sutherland.

This was all at middleweight.

He's seriously Paul Williams sized.

 

Round 4

Blanco keeps putting his shots in, pumping out his 1-2 to push him around and shoeshining Diaz against the ropes. Diaz can't land anything on him, so he resorts to grabbing him and spinning him to the ground. Blanco is winded by the impact and takes a moment to get up. Then he punishes Diaz with a long series of headshots, chasing him around and teeing off while the Mexican grits his teeth and holds his head as still as he can with his upper spine straining to bend.
