Round 1

Blanco jabs from the outside, spinning slowly in place and measuring his shots. Sims tries to stick and move while dialing around Blanco, but is starting to get beaten to the jab and forced to cover up as Blanco turns and unloads brief power combos as he snaps out his long arms. Sims is getting thumped up a bit but blocking a good deal as he circles. Long left hooks and beeline rights are getting past the guard even as Sims holds it firm, and his right side of his face is gashed up badly (from legal blows; they haven't been close enough to butt or elbow).

Round 2

Blanco is working up a sweat, back oozing as he enjoys target practice on the front foot. Jabs are extended out first as slow pool-cues and then snapping out long to set up big whip-around hooks and arrow-straight rights to the body as well as looping shots to the body. Sims is stunned a few times but does a good job of always keeping his hands up and moving. Finally Sims tries to open up a bit while circling left toward the end of the round, and is clipped with the end of a left hook. He stumbles backwards and lands on his butt. It's ruled a slip. Should have been a knockdown.


20-18 Blanco

 

Round 3

Blanco pushes Sims to the ropes with his jab, coming forward and trying to put combos behind the jab but finding Sims squirreled away behind his guard. Sims is timing the retractions of Blanco's left arm on the feel-out single jabs and trying to counter while backing up. Blanco is dodging the right hand easily with a quick backward step but is caught with a left hook while coming forward. Blanco is now blasting straight out with two and three at a time coming forward. Cuffing wrist-shot to the face by Blanco to punctuate an "exchange" (which was really just Sims waving his arms out in the midst of a Blanco straight flurry). Hooks to the body by Blanco. 1-2 by Blanco. Sims is getting constantly backed up, and heaving.

30-27 Blanco

 

Round 4

Blanco jabs high and then curls both fists down low to slam into the midpoint of Sims' lanky frame. Soft flurries coming forward by Blanco, just scoring and backing Sims up but doing no damage. Blanco is just shoeshining with everything now, playing patty-cake. Sims isn't gaining any confidence or trying to assert control, just letting Blanco back him up with soft punches in bunches and trying to take as few to the head as possible with Blanco taking the cue and distributing about 50% to the body. Stiff jab by Blanco as Sims tried to stand in with him. Blanco slaps a bit with downward jabs and right hands as Sims ducks backing up. HARD right hand to the body hurts Sims. Another one.

40-36 Blanco

 

Round 5

Blanco comes forward with a steady knock-knock at Sims' receding door. Sims isn't asking for a punchline. Blanco keeps trying the 1-2 to the head when Sims lowers his hands once safely outside, and Sims keeps rolling to the side to duck it and reposition himself. Wild array of straight shots by Blanco from various angles, shining on Sims like a strobe light. Blanco still isn't turning much over, landing a flush left hook in the pocket and not disturbing Sims. A bit more bravery by Sims here, trying to work his own right hand over Blanco's flurries but unable to quite land one good enough to slow the aggressor down. Right idea, but he doesn't have the timing or pop to execute it.

50-45 Blanco

 

Round 6

Blanco tosses his left jab up high, almost lazily - and then twists to his right with his elbows dropping to catch Sims' counter flurry. Blanco is ducking and blocking, paying more attention to defense now that Sims is selling out a bit and targeting him with straight rights and uppercuts. Blanco is now the one counter-punching and doing so much more effectively than Sims had been in the previous fifteen minutes. Sims gets staggered a few times and lays off. Wild hook from outside by Sims, quickly retreating after barely retaining his balance. Blanco watches him from outside, left hand held low and occasionally shooting up in a measuring jab. Sims is withholding his attacks now, getting rocked by the chopping 1-2 of Blanco crashing through his guard. Right hand to the body, and a left hook to the jaw by Sims. Another good left hook. Too little, too late.

60-54 Blanco

 

Blanco wins by shutout UD. 60-54 x 3.

I was almost expecting to see a judge or two give a round to Leshon "Scrappy Mix" Sims (namely the sixth for being aggressive, especially in contrast to the rest of the night).

In all honesty it should be 60-53 as there was a missed KD call.

 

Blanco looked alright. I actually agree with Mora in grading the performance a B- but Mora's criticisms were off. He asked for more body work and angles, which were not issues at all.

Blanco needs to slap less, learn how to really sit down on shots, develop some inside game, and figure out how to finish an over-matched opponent who lacks the footwork to stay too far away from him.

 

Blanco figured it would be stopped on the cut, all the way back in the first.

That may explain why he coasted and treated it like a sparring session. :conf Not really a good excuse, though.
