Golden Boy may sever ties with Sky

    Golden Boy Promotions has warned Sky Sports it risks missing out on some of the sport's biggest fights if it continues its row with Amir Khan, with chief executive Richard Schaefer declaring "if anyone turns their back on Amir, they turn their back on Golden Boy".
    Khan steps back into the ring against Zab Judah in Las Vegas on July 23; the Briton aiming to add the IBF light-welterweight title to his WBA crown. Although the bout will be shown in Britain, Sky have shunned the chance to screen it, with pay-per-view channel Primetime claiming the broadcasting rights.
    These developments follow a dispute between Khan's team and Sky prior to his previous defence against Paul McCloskey in Manchester in April, which was taken off Sky Box Office after the broadcasting giant labelled the undercard as too weak. Consequently, Sky offered to show the event on Sky Sports 3 - a move which was declined by Khan Promotions. Khan, who was originally mooted to meet WBC and WBO champion Timothy Bradley next, said he hopes the disagreement can be resolved in the near future.
    "I don't know if it's me of they don't enjoy my boxing style," he told the Times. "But when I was with Frank ******, they showed my fights with [Dmitriy] Salita and [Oisin] ***an, and they were no-bodies. There are some big, big fights down the line for me and hopefully they will come knocking on my door."
    Schaefer, who plans to hold talks with Sky Sports chiefs next month, admits the broadcaster is running the risk of severing ties with Golden Boy and its fighters. "We are a family," he said. "If anyone turns their back on Amir, they turn their back on Golden Boy. Mark my words, England will have the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world within the next 12 to 18 months."

    Schaefer is ****in' ******ed if he thinks Sky gives a ****. They obviously don't care about UK TV. Seeing as Khan is due a spanking in the next year or so0 as he continues to fight top opposition, I'll look forward to Schaefer building him back up on Primetime, where Frochy gladly left for Sky and has seen masive improvements in terms of marketing in a short period of time :patsch

    Khan shouldnt say anything about sky because im pretty certain they could tell a few tales about the way the Khans do business.

    If i was a Sky exec, I would be ****ing raging. Years of lining Khans pockets after tonnes of promo work on shitty fights that sholuld never have been PPV and he tries to pull this.

    Even if it hurts sky to some extent, you should never be put over a barrell by anyone and play ball with them

    If Sky are intent on reserving quality for PPV, the JDG-Groves fight should have been on Sky Sports.

    anyone read the eddie hearns interview in boxing news a while ago saying how much time the khan/mccloskey fight wasted for sky and the trouble it caused on a week where it was nowhere near the top sporting event i think the masters was on.i doubt sky have much patience with khan

    originally with clev/brahmer it was ppv worthy, when the clev fight fell apart they saw their was still enough demand for it to be ppv.ppv isn't about quality its about demand

    its not the quality of the match up that matters, its this interest in it for casual fans who make up the bulk of PPV buys

    Khan-McCloskey would have generated more demand than that card, and probably did so even with Primetime.

    I like the way that Khan admits that previously he hasn't been worthy of box office but was shown anyway but now can't understand that he needs good fights to be PPV worthy he should according to him be shown just because he has in the past even if it was against nobodys.....:patsch

    I think Khan will face Mayweather in the not too distant future, I'm sure Khan and Sky will be back teaming up for that one.
