Yep Smith is a harder fight than a still green Benavidez.

    This!

It smacks of trying to make Canelo something he's not. He doesn't have to go up in weight to find a competitive fight, there's plenty of intriguing matchups to be made.

While I agree in that there are plenty of good fights for Canelo at MW and would prefer to see those first,
"Fans just always want to see fighters pushed until they are pushed beyond their limits... to see how much bigger someone has to be before the fighter in question cant overcome them." is one of the primary and traditional ways ATGs display and define their ATG-ness, isn't it?

Also, the drama of such a contest is hard to beat.

I have no doubt Benavidez would stop Smith. Canelo knows this as well.

That's just your opinion though, and i think it's quite illogical to think that Benavidez has a 100% chance of knocking Smith out. But based on things that matter, Smith has the better win at world level, is No.1 in the division, more proven, and is world champ.

I quite believe that Canelo would fight him so long as Smith can only rehydrate to some bull**** emaciated weight on fight night. You better believe it will happen. What's more we're going to get the full house of Vegas judges, the stacked wraps etc etc. Smith will look like death warmed up. Guaranteed. Bookmark this post.

My pick would be Smith is too big & too good for a SMW Canelo.

He's far smarter than Fielding & far more athletic. His range, distance & timing are much better too.. He'll fight at mid to long range & piece him up! I'm not sold on a 168 Canelo, once he faces genuine athleticism & ring nous at this weight Oscar will be having a period...

Plus his brother has already fought him so that alone will help preparations, insider knowledge...

Honestly Canelo should just pass on Smith. He wouldn't get credit for beating smith even if he knocked him out.

Groves was a perfect style match up for Smith. That sit back counter style of Groves was always gonna be useless against a tall long rangy guy who could tap you from range without getting caught by a counter. I argued with a guy on Instagram and told him not to put the money down on Groves.

Smith is a top guy at 168. He won't get the recognition only because fans, especially American casuals don't know who he is. His credibility is solid.

Yeah, Callum is a good fighter probably the most skilled fighter at 68 today, but Canelo haters will always find a reason to detract credit from him. Unifying at 160 probably wont be enough.

More proven how? Beating Froch's shopworn son means what exactly?
